Hi Joan, Yes, I had one about 1 year out from surgery, it was  a little above the area of my belly button...My surgeon fixed it and also got me approved at the same time to have a panni removal since I was experience alot of problems with skin breakdown under my belly flap...It was good to get both fixed at the same time...From the exterior it appear like I had a tiny oval balloon next to my incision line and it hurt when I did ab exercises or heavy lifting... Mine was a pretty simple fix...Good Luck Alesia

Yes, I think what the other poster is talking about is not what you are referring to; however, I had an internal hernia at Peterson's.  The following may help: http://bariatrictimes.com/2007/04/26/internal-hernia-after-l aparoscopic-gastric-bypass-a-review-of-the-literature/ AND/OR Do a google search: "internal hernia in post operative bariatric patient" Otherwise, if I can answer more direct questions, please ask.  Mine was corrected in June of 2006 (for my profile reference) after months of pain and testing.   I hope this helps and you are 110% soon!

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.

I had a couple repaired exactly 9 months after my initial surgery then a couple more in February. I am 17 months out. Several MRI's, CT Scans and other testing showed nothing so the surgeon went in to find out why I was in such pain. Both surgeries were done laproscopically. I went back to work within a week after the first time. The second time I was out of work for 3 weeks because the hospital gave me an IV antibiotic which was on my ALLERGY list. That caused problems, not the hernia repairs. If you have more questions, just ask. Annette

Joani, I had intemittent pain in the abdominal area which came and went. There was no specific spot nor any pattern to the pain. My surgeon also found adhesions and scar tissue which had compressed the bowels. That seemed odd because I never had any constipation. It feels so good to be pain free at last.  Don't let your doctor tell you it is nothing and don't be afraid to have surgery. Recovery was not bad at all. With the exception of the antibiotic reaction, I felt wonderful.

Hi all, My name is Erin and I am currently recovering from hernia surgery. I had lap. gastric bypass surgery  12/26/04.  I had lost 100(ish) pounds. Then about 6 months or so ago I started having this pain in my upper abdominal area and then it escalated where I would have this "gushy lump" that I had to push back in once in a while. I finally bit the bullet and went back to my gastric bypass surgeon where he was astounded to find that I did in fact have a hernia. He talked about the Petersen's gap but I wasnt exactly sure what that was. When they got in there they found I had not 1 but 3 hernias. I had a small one at the gastric site, a tiny one by mu belly button and a large one near a c-section site from when I gave birth to my son in 2004.  I am trying to stay positive that this will make me feel better in the long run. Right now I feel like a huge blimp the swelling is insane but hoping that will go away soon.  Let me know if you have any questions.
