newbie on losers bench - need suggestions for liquid diet

I know, it's probably been asked before, but since I'm a newbie, I hope that you will forgive me. I am 5 days out. So far, I am doing well. I am taking in the protein drinks as often as I can, and the water. Problem - my family still needs to eat so naturally they are eating (Thankfully, I don't have to prepare it, hubby is doing it)...and they are trying very hard to not be so obvious about it, meaning that they are not eating around me. I smell it, and I am not too bothered by it, but there's still something inside me....that big fat demon inside of me that says, "I need it". I have tried watching TV, like Home & Garden (that won't have any references to food!) HAHA! Practically, every third commercial is food!!!! ACK! I can't get away from it. Question - am I getting enough food, err liquid in? I think that I am, but is this natural to feel so awkward around food? I am using the Lean Body protein drinks, and I have sf, ff pudding, and sf jello, and crystal light. I have tried chicken broth, and not too crazy about it (meaning, it didn't suck, but it was just there). Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance for you help. GigiGal

The first 3 months after gastric bypass are really hard. I think the mental part was harder than the physical part. I was starving to death for the first couple of weeks, and I think that's common. It takes a while for your innards to heal, especially to the point that you'll get the full feeling after you've eaten. I can't advise you on a liquid diet. I went on a pureed diet the third day after surgery, which probably isn't much better than a liquid diet, but I got to eat yogurt, cottage cheese, refried beans,, and SF jello pudding. Over and over and over again for 4 weeks. Oh, I did get to chew a Flintstones vitamin twice a day. You probably feel as though you've lost your best friend, and you're wondering if this surgery will make any difference. After the first couple of weeks of wanting to eat everything in sight, I went through a spell where I had to force down that nasty yogurt. I always thought it would be great not to want to eat, but it really wasn't. It might be a while before you feel normal again, but it will happen. They gave me some 1/4 cup stainless steel measuring cups at the hospital, and I see them every now and then in my cabinet and I LOL. I can't imagine that I lived on that little bit of nothing. Just hang in there, it gets better, I promise.

Hi Gigi :) This is the grads board which means we are 1+ years out of surgery and its been a loooong time since we did the pre op/early op stuff. I recommend trying the Main board or RNY boards as they are heavily populated with newbies who are living the life as we speak and you will get many grea replies :) HUGS PK
