drinking alcohol and gaining weight

I have been eating right and exercising everyday but also having a few (or more ) ****tails every night. I went for my 2 year check up and am up 12 pounds since september. Needless to say they were not happy and neither am I. I can feel it right around the waist line and my pants are tight. I usually have rhine wine or whiskey and water, never mixed with soda. I really need to get it under control before it starts controlling me. I never have a hangover so didnt realize it was affecting me that bad, but the weight gain (ugh). Debra

Sorry to burst your bubble but alcohol turns to sugar and sugar=carbs=lbs. If you drop the alcohol you will drop the weight if you go back to basics.

Current weight:120 and still 5'4

I'm not judging, but a few (or more) ****tails every night is a problem. It sounds like something is already controlling you. I know several post-ops that have been very successful with AA. I wish you the best.

I hope you're able to cut out those drinks without a lot of trouble. I have a friend that likes to drink beer, I don't think she has a real problem with it, but she just likes to drink beer. She can't understand why she's gaining so much weight because she exercises so much. I saw her walking on her treadmill the other day, and she had it cranked up just a-gittin' it, but she was holding on with one hand and drinking a beer with the other hand. I would bet that's the reason she's not losing any weight. :)

Hello Debra As Im sure you know and many will tell you - Alcohol is empty calories and leads to Trouble with a capital T.  Drinking every night is a sure sign of weight gain plus cross addiction to alcohol.  You arent suffering hangovers because we dont have enough emzimes in our pouch to break down the sugar and alcohol together so it passes through quickly but not before the damage is done.  I started drinking a glass a wine a night at about 11 months out and for the next 1 1/2 years proceeded to drink myself into a drunken stuper, experiencing blackouts, falling and hurting myself at times really seriously and it wasnt until my family gave me the ultimatim that I finally woke up and realized I was an alcoholic.  I never drank before surgery but boy did I get hooked after!  Do be careful!  People who say it doesnt effect them any differently than before surgery are only fooling themselves!  You will gain weight and chances are you will develop a serious drinking problem.  It doesnt really matter wheather its drinking, drugs, gambling, sex, etc..... Cross addiction is a reality and very serious!  I joined WW to lose the extra 20 pounds I put on drinking and havent had a drink in 5 months.  Ive lost 9 of the pounds with 11 more to go.  I wish you good luck! Hi!  You are not alone!  A friend of mine had RNY around the same time I did.  She too started to drink and soon it was every night, then at least 3-4 a night minimum.  Well, she has not lost all her weight she wanted to.  She stopped losing when she started the drinking.  GET HELP as soon as possible!!  She is just starting to get help after gaining 20 pounds!   Healing Hugs!

I have the same problem and the wieght gain does come from the the alcohol and it will edvently  hurt your liver and kidneys. We really cant afford to have any more complications after having surgery. Trust me you dont want to end up in the hospital again. Please get help....
