Complications from an Endoscopy??

Wasn't really sure where to post this question, but thought this would be the best board.  I'm over 4 yrs post-op RNY and of course as time goes by, I've been able to eat more than when immediately post-op. I have been pretty much stable though with my what my body can tolerate for at least that past 2 to 2 1/2 years. I had an endoscopy a few weeks ago and the doc told me he removed a polyp near the stoma. After several days the thought crossed my mind that I was able to eat more at different meals. I didn't really think much of it, until the past week or so when it's dawned on me that I'm constantly able to eat more (the 10+ weight gain not pleasant either). I am now able to eat double, triple even quadruple the volume of food I was before. Whereas before, if I overate just a little of certain foods, it felt like a rock right under my sternum, now my tummy doesn't even feel the food hit. If anything I feel it lower down towards the center of my abdomen. I was visiting my mom this weekend and told her about one of the meals I'd eaten and her eyes about bugged out. She said that she's not known me to eat anything like that since my GB.  I've been suffering from chronic constipation for the past 2+ years and this has also gotten worse in the past few weeks. I'm not wanting to sound paranoid beause I know it's normal to be able to eat more as time goes on. However, this sudden and drastic change is somewhat scary to me. I left a message for my GB surgeon Friday, but am afraid they may initially just chalk it up to the fear that we all have at some point (OMG I've stretched my stomach). I've come too far and have gone through the pain, recovery and expense of WLS and 9 rounds of plastic surgery. The thought that I'll continue to be able to eat like this and possibly undo all this hard work is terrifying. The only reason I toss the endoscopy into the equation is that it all started at the same time and he specifically told me he removed a polyp from the stomach/intestine connection. I think I might need it back!! Has anyone heard of anyone with any experience like this or either first-hand knowledge? Or perhaps can point me in the direction of other sites that could provide some insight. Thanks in advance for your feedback! Kim

Possibly he made the opening to you stomach larger. I would talk to gastric bypass surgeon and get his opinon. I had to have my stoma stretched through EGD at 6 months out it was so tight I could only get liquids in that is only reason I know it can be done. Why don't you start by asking the gastro dr who did your endoscope and removed the polyp and go from there.

Thanks for the feedback. I was familar with intentional dilation, just never thought of it being a side-effect of an EGD for something completely unrelated (nor was it mentioned to me as a possibility). From digging around a little more on the internet it appears that too large of an opening can be common. It made my heart sink a little more each time the summary search results says it results in weight gain post-RNY. I had planned to call my gastro doc tomorrow to ask for a copy of the procedure report (I have an incessant need to know all the details ) to share with by GB surgeon. I guess I now have more of a pressing need to get the reports. It's just disheartening to think it may require some other surgical intervention to reverse what was was done unintentionally. I had asked my gastro doc about the size of my stomach, et al, after the procedure and all he just said was that it looked like a normal post-gastric bypass stomach. Kim, I would be very careful about the protions you are eating...make sure you are not eating with others right now so you can concentrate the way you did right after surgery. Portions small like the plam of your hand. If it were me I would do the "5daypouch test" you can find details on www.5daypouchtest.com this may help tighten up the feeling for awhile until you get some answers. Be sure to talk to the bariatric surgeon you don't want the weight to be on the rise. I did the 5day test last week of Feb and first week of March...really got rid of carb monster for me and took me back to 4 oz portion. Good luck and let me know how you made out,.,,

I feel the same way. I had 3 strictures after GBP and the last time, the doctor who did the endo said I'll never have that problem again. As time goes on I feel I can eat way too much (and have figured out on fitday.com that I can do 2000 calories a day no problem). I don't get that tight full feeling hardly at all - except if I'm tired and that's cause I think I eat too fast. I'm thinking about asking my surgeon about it because I'm having so much trouble getting rid of 15 pounds I gained. Sometimes I wish I would have gotten the lapband so I could just get a fill. Diona
