Do you get the instructions from www.5daypouchtest.com ?  Or where? How often do you do this?  What is the hardest part?  Any advice for doing it?

Sharlene, the website gives you the suggestions/information for the pouch test.  How often.......that's a personal choice, I've done it twice since January.  The hardest part for me isn't the liquids, as long as I don't eat that first bite I am ok, I struggle once I eat.   Many have been successful with the pouch test, the control I felt was rewarding.....good luck! Post your progress on the board!

I dont understand the pouch test. What has it helped you with? I hear about it often and makes me wonder if I should try it. Im not having any problems or feel out of control. I measure my food so I know how much Im eating. The one thing I read that sounded good was that you have that more restricted feeling again which would be nice. I stop eating when my portion is gone, I dont get hungry but I would like to feel something. Any insight would be great. Thanks!!

Melissa, the pouch test gave me that restriction I felt earlier in the journey.......it was amazing to feel again and know that my pouch was still working like it is intended to do.  It also made me realize those times when I thought I was hungry I really wasn't. Maybe this isn't the time for you to try it, only you know if and when it would interest you.  If you feel control right now, just keep it in the back of your mind for some future date.

Are you really 10 pounds below goal and at 20.4 BMI and wanting to do the pouch test?  Just making sure you are keeping it real.... don't want to go to the opposite extreme.

I just had bl/ba and upper arm lifts and I know that they say not to get on the scale for awhile.  Well, I have never listened very well and I have gained 7 pounds so I panicked.  And I have been slipping into bad habits since I am not very active during my recoop period.  So I guess that I am thinking it would put me back in the groove.  Sort of like preventitive maintainence. Thanks for the concern.

Well, you look amazingly slim in your picture. I know it's really scary to see the weight go up and I'm a boredom/emotional eater, so I totally understand what you're feeling. I just wanted to make sure you weren't over doing it. I've been anorexic and bulimic in my youth before I got fat, and I've had friends who completely ruined their lives because of those diseases, so I'm always worried when I hear of someone who seems to be trying to lose too much. I hope you don't mind my being nosy, just making sure you're okay. I did the five day pouch test a couple of months ago and found that it did help to get me back on track. Not because of anything to do with my pouch, but because it weaned me off the carbs that had steadily become a bigger and bigger part of my diet. Carbs make me feel hungry all the time and I discovered that they were triggering hypoglycemia too. So I think the 5DPt may help you feel less hungry as well. Good luck! I know recovering from surgery can be a real bummer. Hang in there!

It is VERY normal to gain 5 - 15 pounds post plastic surgery from water retention/swelling. They say dont weigh yourself for a reason, to keep you from panicking and taking drastic measures over something perfectly normal. As to bad habits, there is no magic cure to stopping them other than, dont do it! I have not worked out of the house since getting my RNY surgery. I dont have kids either. So basically I am home and free to do whatever I want 24/7. The biggest perk to this is learning how to eat when at home. I think this is a problem many people have. They have learned how to avoid food by being busy. What to do once you are free all the time with no work/life routine to keep you out of the fridge???  If your problem is simply now you are home in your old environment of mindless eating, that is the problem you have to solve. 5 day tests wont release you of this problem. You need to accept it as a new learning experience and create a system to not allow for mindless eating. This is what works for me, take it or leave it ;) 1. I have a specific amount of fluids I drink between meals, I do not eat until I have drank my quota. Currently this is 36 - 72 ounces depending on which meal.  2. I only eat MEALS. No "just one" or a nibble or a lick of anything. Once you have *1* youve opened the gate to eat continuously.  3. Protein first ALWAYS 4. No drinking with meals 5. Eat slow On this plan I have lost all of my weight without effort most of the time. I simply make rules I can follow easily and just do it. Good luck with your recovery and stay away from the scale ;) HUGS PK
