Hair loss - almost 2 years post-op

Just wondering if anyone else experiences this.  I have faithfully been taking biotin and B vitamins since surgery (June 06), as well as using nutri-ox hair products.  After surgery my hair went from wavy to very curly.  I had the expected hair loss post-surgery , which slowed down after about 7 months.  Lately, I have been losing a lot of hair again.  My last bloodwork was about 6 months ago, and all was well.  I don't stress my hair by styling it.  Now that it is curly, I have given up fighting with it, so I generally comb it while wet and leave it to do it's crazy thing.  Any insight on what might be going on with the hair loss this late post-surgery? Thanks. Lori

I've seen a couple of ladies post this same problem on the grads board. It seems to happen to some people 18-24 months post-op. I don't think they ever discovered the reason though, but I remember it not lasting very long. I hope it stops soon!!

At 3 1/2 years post op, I am going through the hair loss again. My labs are good. I don't understand it either.

Well, that hardly seems fair.  Here I thought I weathered my most unpleasant side effect in the first year.   The next post references protein.  I think my protein intake is okay, although I am carb bingeing way too much, but I do get a good amount of protein at every meal.  I often snack on a broccoli and nut salad.  I don't think that is the problem, but it's possible I guess. How how much protein are you getting daily? One of the first signs you are not getting enough is hair loss.

Hi Lori, I thought I was crazy.......I have not found anyone else who had their hair come back in very curly.  Mine is the same way --- it looks like a have perm.   I have had some hair loss again recently, I'm not as far out as you, but I was kind of wondering what the deal was myself. Jenn

oh my gosh... I could have written this post... I am almost 2yrs in june also and I have noticed increased hair loss also.  And my hair went from wavy to very curly also.   I noticed my hair that is falling out is thin limp and less curly.   I wonder if it is the damaged hair from the beginning when we were in rapid weight loss and new healthy hair is coming in.  That is what I am hoping... I am going to keep a close eye on this thread.  Maybe someone will have some insight. thanks  jessica

I was wondering if you had any other surgery lately--like plastics or something else?  Surgeries are a trauma to the body, and hair loss is a possiblity. Other than than, you doc should be asked about a current blood panel to see if there could be another reason.

I had plastics back in early August 2007.  I am really hoping that isn't the trigger.  I have another surgery coming up some time in the next few months.  Yup, that's me, walking pin cushion.  Raising the average number of surgeries per capita all by me lonesome.  I am starting to wonder if I should just pour superglue on my scalp to keep those suckers locked in.
