stop grazing! that's the behavior that got us where we are in the first place. okay, on a gentler and more realistic side, try the less-bad for you snacks. like fruit, veggies (baby carrots anyone?), nuts, dried fruit and string cheese (handy pre-packaged sizes).  i'm over 2 years out and found myself grazing recently on too much candy and chocolate. diet sodas, chips, crackers, all the bad stuff. not surprising that i've put back on 10lbs. of unecessary weight. so i'm all over the green tea and gum-chewing as a way to curb the cravings. not to mention giving myself a good hard mental check before i reach for the chips. am i bored? tired? actually hungry? why am i eating again? i've noticed that if i get enough sleep, eat 3 regular meals, keep myself mentally stimulated (hard to do with a boring job) and exercise, i don't over-eat. um, yeah, basically that means taking really good care of myself. its an on-going struggle. eh, i miss the days of not being hungry and hating food. it's becoming too easy to slip into bad (old) habits! -kari

My favorite is beef jerky. Grazing I know all too well...you're smart for nipping it now.

My new snack:  microwaved turkey pepperoni and Laughin Cow Light French Onion Cheese......the pepperoni are crunchy like a chip so it tames the desire for something crunchy. My other standbys:  cottage cheese, 2% cheese, beef jerkey.

No sugar added fudgesicles.  I buy lowcarb sugar free dark chocolate and less fat peanut butter when I crave a peanut butter cup.  I square of the chocolate slap some PB on that puppy and I'm good to go.  Also, I keep prunes handy they serve a dual purpose :-)

Try dried peas. Crunch, green veggie, cheap, no refrigeration needed, 1/4 cup = 6 grams of protein. Bought in bulk from health food stores.

Thanks everybody. I have to stop my bad habits again. I feel hungry all the time except when I keep up with my protein. Sandy

eh, isn't that the truth? it's like, if you take your diet seriously (i mean, hit all your liquid and protein goals) then things tend to work out. hunger, cravings, bowel movements, etc. you may want to try to hit those protein goals closer to the time of day that you snack...i noticed i was getting the munchies in the afternoon so then i started eating more protein (less carbs) at lunch and found myself with less snacking issues in the afternoon. and again with the suggestion to exercise. those endorphin rushes really clear out my depression and feelings of sadness that jump-start my longing for food. not to mention that but it helps me burn more calories, my body feels better, i am proud of myself for getting out there, etc. lots of benefits besides the actual muscle toning. think about it.

I've gotta back up the dried peas, also wasabi peas.. oooh man yumm-o.  Most dried/dehydrated fruits and veggies sit "well" with me, often better then their cooked or raw counterpart.  I personally LOVE cashews, almonds, and Traders Joes various nut butters. The ones I get have NO added sugars, and are very nice on my 1/2 piece toast, or a table spoon as a dip for bananna chips (these are my go-to salty not terribly guilty pleasure).  frozen, no sugar added juices in ice cube form are also one of my favorite stand bys. Cranberry/blackberry juice being my adsolute favorite.   Just remember to keep the grazing down, eat your meals, drink your liquid, and re-evaluate your snacks. I know it's hard, man oh man it's hard. BUT! You're doing great and you can do it!
