Regaining Weight

Not the Same Dawn

Christine,  Welcome to the gaining crowd. I'm 5'5"  (down from 5'6" at my highest, age shrinkage, I'm 50) and weigh about 119 pounds. It recently occured to me that if I lost the loose skin I have I would be under 110 and that's far too skinny for me, even with a small frame which I don't believe I have. So I'm in the middle of trying to gain some weight to get up to what the surgeon said was my goal: 125. I've increased my calories to 2000 at least and 2300 and more to see if I could gain a couple pounds and stay there. I want to gain alittle but not ride a run-away train here. For snacks I have Sunflower seeds, SF Chocolate coated Almonds or Cashews (although, some people have a problem with these), honey roasted peanuts, lemon peanuts, hot pepper peanuts, even Roasted Green Peas are good. Nuts seem to be high calorie and protein (and fat) if that helps. I also eat 1 oz cheese sticks with a piece of salami wrapped around it. Some people can't do the fat in the salami and I know I'm pushing it with the fat in some of what I eat. I still try not to drink with my meals because if I have to back track and lose some weight later, it will make it easier if my stoma is intact and functioning. So I drink well before eating and not after or during.  I don't like shakes either. I have taken to putting protein into my malto meal in the mornings. I also tried it in a waffle too and that worked pretty well. I've made my own protein bars and those are good because for the dried fruit I can add what I like.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

My surgeon's weight goal for me was 145, which was just silly, because that was still pretty heavy for my frame, and I'd hit it by the 6 month mark.

I'll have to try some of your food tricks. I don't have a clue how many calories I'm eating now - that sounds like a good place to start.

Thanks for sharing!

I had a similar problem lst summer.  I am 5'5" and got down to 113 pounds and I was just to thin.  I did not look good at all.  I called my WLS office and he suggested to drink 2-3 protein shakes a day.  Also adding whole grain breads.  I would eat Joseph's pita pockets. I started to gradually gain  weight to 125 pounds.  This is where I would like to stay.  Try to gain weight in a healthy way.  Good Luck!

Awesome! Thanks for the advice. What are Joseph's pita pockets?

Joseph's pita pockets are just the name brand of a wheat, oat and flax pita pocket.  I just get it at our local grocery store.

How about trail mix?  My brother eats the regular kind (with m&ms), but you could mix up your own and use sf candy. It is healthy and high in calories.
