Upper GI Experience
It's horrible. They have these crystals that they mix with a tiny bit of water and you have to swallow it and then drink the heavy white barium. Well the crystals are like Alka-Seltzer on steriods. You have to burp immediately and they don't want you to because this stuff expands your stomach for a good picture. I tell ya, it was a battle because you have this air that wants to come up and then this heavy stuff you have to force past the air. Honestly, it was torture. I didn't do very well, but that's the way it goes. I burped like I had been drinking for a week!
I also just got my results. It seems there is no fistula, but I do have a hiatal hernia. Guess it's mild because I don't have any pain.
I go to my surgeon next Friday so we'll see what they say then. I also got my films on CD so I'm ready to hit the road and find out what is going on. I know that I need to make a lot more changes to my diet in order to lose the weight. Hopefully they will have some great ideas for me.
Sorry you had a bad experience but glad to hear no fistula........hope your surgeon can give you the guideance and info necessary to regroup and feel happy about your surgery and success.
Let us know what you find out.

Gawd! Sounds terrible... Glad that part is over for you! And no fistula...so now you rest easy about that! I had a hiatal hernia before surgery....and I always wondered what became of it! It doesn't bother me if it's still there. I imaged it just healed but who knows!??? Did you have it before surgery?
Good luck on friday
Hugs,
Anita
