I need a hobby

Okay, here in Ohio we had a blizzard this weekend, with 20 inches of snow. I am one of the crazy people out on the road during these times. I NEED A HOBBY! I find myself so restless, I hate to stay home, the only thing i like to do at home is cook or eat. It is really weird, but I can't find anything that interests me. Even after looking on the internet a while, i get bored and run out of ideas.  I know this restlessness is one of the things that lead to my obesity. I am so envious of the people who can stay home all weekend. For me, i get depressed, restless, anxious, I just hate it. I know this seems silly, but it is quite serious. I NEED A HOBBY! I don't want to resort to eating again.  I am crafty, but do not like knitting, sewing, crotching.  I am extremly picky about books. The last ones i read were Janet Evanovich, Stephaine Plum novels. I like to make things with an end product. My last craft was candy wreaths for Christmas. Candy is not what a post RNYer needs lying around the house. I don't like painting...Ugh, I need a HoBBY!

Hi....I know what you mean even tho I am in sunny florida I needed a hobby too..I didnt look at your age but the hobby I have found I really enjoy. It is quilting...yeah I know...I never liked quilts until I started watching on HGTV..and saw what was involved in making a quilt. Quilts soon because a beautiful work of art that can consume so much free time and energy...and I have beautiful gifts to give as well as decorations for my home. Also when you make a quilt you put sooooo much love and so much of yourself into it..that when you give it as a gift to someone you care about..there is so much of you in the quilt you are giving them a  part of you...making it super special. I know if you go to a local quilt shop you can take a few basic classes to get down the basics of cutting and sewing ( I had no knowlege of how to do either) and then the internet opens a whole world of free patterns for you to use. You will be amazed at how many diffrent quilts patterns there are. Quilting is not an age thing either...anyone can do it from a child of 12 on up..and any style quilts...from postcards..to mini...to art...triditional ..scrappy. So much is avaliable. I hope this help a little ....at least in giving you an idea or direction you can take. Naturally quilters still love Chocolate : )  But we can choose sugar free....... Lots of hugs to finding the right hobby and keeping on track! Cha

How about counted cross stich? I find it keeps my hands occupied along with mind. And you get a beautiful picture at the end. Start with a simple sampler usually available at any craft store. That's what I did, and now I'm hooked. There is also Stamped Cross stich, you still have to follow the pattern but it is already stamped on a piece of fabric. Also available at craft stores. Have fun! Maria

I also love counted cross stitch, Maria!  I've done many, many pieces through the years, from very small (do in an evening) to very large projects, and most of them have been gifts--I only have a few of my own!  This is the only kind of hand needlework I know how to do. Funny you  should mention it, cause just last wkend I mentioned to my friend that I need to start working on a counted cross stitch project to keep my hands busy in the evening while I like to watch TV--it is one of the few things that works to keep me out of the food--I get so engrossed in the stitching, plus I don't want to stop & eat & keep washing my hands!  I have MANY projects "on deck" that I can start working on! Jo

Always,
Jo

I love beading. I started with making 'angel earrings' to thank people who helped me in some way, but now I make necklaces and anklets (which are now normal sized) and lots of other things. It is amazing how fast time flies just figuring out how exactly I want a piece to look. I take classes now and then; they fill up an empty evening or a Saturday sometimes. nancy

How about volunteering?  Pick something you enjoy and look for an organisation that you can help out with. That way, you not only help yourself but others benefit too.

I do Native american beadwork.  This afternoon, I was preparing to send a stockpile of beadwork to an artshow.  I am hoping to bring in $2000.00 for my largest piece.  I have 3 purses, 2 cell phone cases, and several small items.  I have been doing it for 20 years and if i HAVE to sit and listen to lectures or anything else boring, I bead.  I am working on a cradle board that should bring in $3000.00 now.  I love to bead!  Find something you enjoy!

Oh DANA!   I want to see some of your art!  Please post some on your profile somewhere! I love doing anything crafts. I had my own business for some 12 years doing wood work and decorative painting, folk art and anything related. I dabble in anything that interests me. Including some beading. I love art in any form or media.  Anita PS I missed you!
