5DPT and Dumping

OK...so I'm going to start the 5DPT tomorrow.  I had surgery in August 06 and have been very bad lately in my eating habits.  I'm totally addicted to sugar and carbs just like before surgery.  I am able to eat sugar without dumping.  Has anyone started dumping after eating sugar after doing the pouch test?  Not that I'm planning on eating any sugar...I almost hope that I will dump so that it will prevent me from doing so!! As always, thanks for you help!

tj, I don't know the answer to your question, but I started the pouch test today. I understand from others that 1 week really does put you back to that post op full feeling. I've also been told that the 1st 2 days are a b----, but then it gets much easier to stay compliant. I'm doing ok today so far. I plan on sticking with the full liquids for 2 weeks to get off a few pounds. Like you, my carb eating has gotten way out of control, esp. at work, I find myself constantly snacking on pretzels and animal crackers. I'm hoping that by extending the length of the full liquid stage, that I'll regain my fresh post op mindset so I can handle not snacking at work. I wish you the best.  PS: If you aren't attending a support group, I run the Phoenixville  group at Phoenixville hospital, the 1st Wed of each month at 7 pm. Everyone is welcome, regardless of where they had their surgery. Chris

The only thing the 5 day pouch test does is it gives you the "feeling" of being tighter because you avoid slider foods and carbs.  It doesn't change a thing. It won't change your rate of absorption so no you won't dump if you never have. I did the pouch test just to try it out. I lasted 3 days and on the third day got sicker than a dog. It really wasn't worth even trying.  The 5 lbs I lost in those 3 days came back once I ate normally.  Dawn

I don't dump but get nauseated if I overdo certain foods (read ~~ sugar)........I haven't read anyone say they started dumping again if they had previously.  I can tell you I feel the restriction more now, or at a minimum I'm more aware of listening to my pouch instead of eating for a longer period of time so I can eat more.

The point of doing the 5DPT is to get the "carb monster" out and not let it back in. Meaning?  You are not to go back to sugar afterwards, so technically you won't find out if you dump. Angela
