I have been low iorn and anemic sense my surgery. Nothing seems to work. I take iron vit c and b12 with a good multi. Any idea's.. I think the only thing keeping me going is the b12. My teeth are going to fall out from the ice cravings.

I chew on ice all the time! I drag around my 2 liter bottle of water and a glass full of ice chips all day long...I finish all the ice before the water...Is this an anemic thing? It's funny too because I am always so cold so I sit here frozen...chewing on ice!  Amazing...

Yeah I don't even drink water anymore, just ice all day. By the time I go to bed my jaws ache and the ice maker don't make it fast enough LOL. My Dr said it is because of the anemia. I also where layers of clothes even in the summer because I am freezing all the time, that can be from no blood also. I hope it goes away someday.

Called PICA, classic symptom of iron deficiency anemia. Some ppl have cracked teeth from doing this!

OK, so don't be thinking you'll get iron from foods or an iron skillet. If you coudl have, you would have.

Iron is normally absorbed in the duodenum, which is now bypassed. The only iron you'll get is what is in the iron pill(s) you take and it does take some trial and error for most of us to find true love. LOL

Mind you, you can eat liver and spinach from a cast iron skillet, but it won't change your iron levels. Food is not digested, not routed past the duodenum. Or a simple way to say it is: food doesn't go there.

That's funny about an iron skillet!  That would have been great if that could have worked! Oh well. I guess I never really looked at all the symptoms...Once Doc said "you are anemic" ...What did I need to look at the symptoms for??? Chewing Ice wouldn't have seemed like a symptom to me...I always chew on ice chips...I let them get slushy first though... I want to keep my teeth...So I'm cutting back on the ice...

It's the first step of pica. Some ppl to go on and crave (but question their own sanity) dirt, potting soil, clay, detergent --- tends to be grainy things.

Once the iron is fixed, you might still chew the ice in your glass, but I don't think you will hunt down ice any more.

Example: normie in my church. I saw the dtr was iron anemic, whiter than sheets, right? We go over to play board games and when I walk in the door, there is a fresh bowl of shaved ice with a spoon.

Hmm. I say, as casually as possible, "So, who's anemic?" and they all point to the dtr and they know she is, but haven't found an iron she can tolerate, so for now, bought her an ice crusher. Of course, she is freezing anyway, without proper oxygen delivery system (iron), but then ate several bowls of ice during games, too.
