Secret for staying on track during "bad" days?
We all have them, no matter where we are with our journey
Life keeps throwing us curves and then finally all hell breaks loose. I find if I work out each day, do something, I can cope....but if I miss a day. It's melt down time
Like yesterday for me
One key factor to stay on track during a melt down is to NOT have any bad foods in the house. I can't tell you how many times I went to the fridge and pantry yesterday looking for something, anything.
I even went through the drawers, and closets knowing there had to be Halloween chocolate or Christmas chocolate left over somewhere. Would it had made me feel better? NO Would it have solved my issues? NO Do I know better? YES
I did find Pez I bought for the kids for Easter but I was not going to sink that low, but it was close
Each time I didn't find anything bad, I reached for a protein bar, lean meat, shrimp, yogurt. So even though I was having a really bad day, I ended up eating good
Now ain't that a hoot
So my friends, not only is it good for the entire family, kids and all but also for you when those days come around and they will
I did end up doing some exercises at the end of the day and it made me feel better than that chocolate ever could
So if you have a success secret for getting through the emotional melt downs without eating the couch, share with us
Take care,
Kathy

I had sort of the same revelation yesterday. I ran out of my sf cookies and sweet snacks yesterday morning. We aren't going to the grocery store until later in the week. So I just had to do without. I'm like you, I walked to the pantry and refrigerator a million times, looking for something to munch on. Nine times out of ten, I just walked away. If I had to have something, I ate fruit or veggies.
So when we go to the grocery store.............I'm not even going to buy any junk. Now, keeping my hands off my husband's groceries will still be a challenge. It might make me go back to having some sugar free cookies as an option, instead of giving in and trying one or two of his girl scout cookies.
You made me LOL (for real) with the Pez reference. Seriously, that *would* feel like finding myself in the gutter too! I love Pez dispensers, but not Pez. But on bad days I could generate lust in my heart (pouch, whatever) even for that lowly 'lil sugar pill.
I am still searching for *the* answer to your question and I will be six years post-op in May.
Currently (and in the past), my best crutch has been protein shakes. Mostly because I never relied on them as a pre-op, and any habit I can develop that doesn't look like my pre-op world is a vast improvement from the oft-failed tricks of that time. Other backups are protein foods that'll stuff me so much I can't squeeze junk in on top of them. Turkey meatballs. String cheese, pistachio nuts & goldfish crackers (yes, I eat like an 8-year-old). Broccoli with cheese melted on top. *anything* but sugar or junk food, just *anything*.
KUDOS to you for making it through today so well!!
