General Diet Question
I lost 6 pounds doing the 5DPT, since then I have gained about 3 back. I know this is expected, but I now have questions about this. It seems that I cannot lose weight unless I follow basically an Atkins or South Beach type diet. The moment I add in foods that aren't high protein my weight seems to go back up. Has anyone else realized this? If so, how have you handled it? I know that I cannot follow that type of diet for the rest of my life. I need my veggies and fruit. I also would like the occassional sweet. I'm just trying to figure out how to get the scale moving downward again and this time I want it to continue to move. Thanks!
I have found that too many carbs (mostly processed) had caused my weightloss to halt. I feel very bloated and heavy when I eat too many. I try to stick to mostly protein, fruits and veggies, and I am fine. I've started losing again - I am down about 7 lbs. My NUT suggested that I am to get between 1200 and 1400 calories, 80 - 100 grams of protein, and to keep my carbs within 20 grams of my total protien each day - it seems to be working.
Good luck!!
Is it all carbs or just the white flour/white sugar? I don't do sugar at all but white floured stuff will send my weight up multiple pounds in a day. More of a reaction then true weight/fat gain.

That's exactly what happens to me!! Fruits, veggies and whole grains do not have that effect on me. Anything overly processed on the other hand, makes me feel bloaty and heavy. I have found that if I do continue to eat them, I will put weight on (put on about 7 lbs over the holidays). But if I nip it quickly, the weight will come right off.
I had this problem before WLS with the big quick "gains". They aren't true gains because I didn't ingest enough calories to gain 5 lbs overnight nor did I retain that amount of water either. Not sure what the issue is overall but I have issues on top of that issue and I suspect it is a bacterial overgrowth in my intestines and that leads to EXTREME bloating and gas and pain. Probiotics have help immensely. Seeing doc today to see about antibiotics.
I think a wheat-free diet may be in my future. That seems to be a trigger. Haven't figured out if rice, potatoes, etc that are high in natural sugars (starches) also do it. Ahhh, my life as a human science project! What fun!

Lets see... 10 surgeries since March of 2005 - not to mention an 11th coming soon (spinal fusion) and then many weird symptoms leading to tests and a couple of hospitalizations...
all add up to SCIENCE! Just lay me across a petri dish.

Well you sure do look great for a science project! OMIGOSH though! Wow. I'm really afraid to ask what spinal fusion is, but it can't be good just by adding those two words together...It sounds dire!
At least you have a sense of humor about it. I feel like a petri dish lately myself.
Hopefully your troubles will be under control soon. And your hubby's blood too! I almost forgot about that! I just finished reading all your vitamin regime! Very cool! Thanks for putting that up on your profile for all to read. It'll be interesting to see where my deficiencies end up...Hopefully outta the red!
Good luck to you...
