Doesn't take much to excite me-Iron related!

I can't believe it takes so little for me to be happy and I am so very excited. This is 2nd month in a row my ferritin went up. I am at 145, last month 136. I was dropping 20 mls each month since infusion last Feb/Mar 07 and all of all sudden its reversing.  All my numbers are in perfect order 2nd month in a row. Oncologist/Hematologist tells me I can go 6 months until next visit, first time since 2001. This is huge for me for those who know my past history of blood issues. Vits and supplements are what I believe made the difference. Next month I see my bariatric surgeon, Vit D is only test not run and I am sure he will run that in April. Doing the "I did it" happy dance!

Current weight:120 and still 5'4

Congrats lady, are you supplementing with Vit D?  What iron are you taking?  I am going to call around tomorrow to find a PCP in Louisiana.....a doc was recommended to me so I'll see how that goes for sure, I want someone VERY knowledgeable in WLS and what labs I need, I have my list that I'll present for labs, I just don't want have to explain myself a million times WHY I want those ran.

Dana I was taking D3 in oil, bought by error...I now take dry D3 5000 IU  along with what is already un my vit pack which contains 800. If I am not in the normal range when Dr Murr runs April's labs then I will take another 5000 IU to get it up and I will know its from malabsorption for sure. I have it listed on my page  (Sept archive) where I get  all of my vitamins and supplements. I have to be super careful not to have additives due to allergies. These are all pure no fillers. I am not taking any extra iron, there is none in my vit pack at all but some of the other supplements I take contain iron as well as some foods. Since I don't eat meat this is an issue for me.  The iron issue was so severe last yr in Feb, it was unreadable (-0). We did another IV iron infusion of Infed at that time which made me feel like crap..very metallic taste. I went from 0 to 300 and I am still holding it which I never did even prior to WLS. As we all know it becomes a bigger issue once we have surgery. Since I don't absorb it by a pill form, the infusions are my only salvation. Infusions just never held before but once I added the 2nd B12 (1000 mcg) weekly it changed. This was due to my research on B12 not the hematologist, he was hesitant but now saids he will use this. I feel like all my hours researching and documenting  iron issues (years) has finally paid off. Re; to find right hematologist, thats a hard one...you need one who is open to listening to you. It took me years especially when I moved to Florida I think they thought I was dying. Just kept pumping blood into me to get my hemoglobin up (its is 13.6 now always ran very low) when I really needed to get the iron "fixed". Now that we fixed the iron, I am not anemic at this time. However we do have to watch it.

Ginny, You know I am sooo happy for you...You give me hope!  You must feel awesome to finally be rid of that and know you are healthy!  I go in for labs tomorrow morning...and to see doc about Iron she wants to try on me. Will see what happens when the B-12 tests come back...She's holding off until she sees them first. Hugs Anita
