help I don't understand
I have done the 5dpt, i don't really go crazy with my eating, I know I don't drink enough water or excersize, but to gain 5lbs in one week after i did the pouch test, I don't understand , why after 3years am i gaining so fast. since i lost all my weight i have gained 10lbs in one year, 5 of it in less the 2 weeks, whats up with that. Am I ibeing stuiped?
Hi Mags, I don't think you are being stupid at all. I think because we are all different, the 5dpt will be different for everyone. Did/Do you keep a food journal at all?? Do you exercise during the week (even if it's just a little bit)?
Some items that are involved with the 5dpt can involve a lot of sodium, especially meats/fish that are canned or injected with a sodium solution. Salt can wreak absolute havoc in my body.
These are just some things to look at. I have been working with my dietician for the past two weeks to straighten out my program, I have a knee injury and have had to cut back on calories but keep my protein up and find that balance. But I am soooo grateful for my Dietician, she's a godsend. Do you have access to one to help you work out a plan that is right for you??
*hugs*

hi there
i was unhappy with where i was recently and although i never seem to do it for long, i am currently tracking my food intake online. im using sparkpeople and i know some use fitday.
maybe that would help you see if there is something you are doing that is not right for you.
sometimes we do things and are not even aware of what we are doing.
good luck, keep the faith, jacki
Awe, I know this is so painful and frustrating...
I am not an advocate of the 5 day pouch test but have done it. The purpose is not to lose weight but to get back on track with eating smaller portions and get away from the sugar and carbs. Here is what I share with others that have gotten off track and started to gain. Like myself..
Here is what I suggests you try.... I am no expert and this is just my thoughts for you.
Here are some suggestions for getting back on track...
Go through your house and get rid of anything that is trigger foods for you
Go to the store and get stocked up on good clean foods
Get back to writing down everything that goes in your mouth, here are a list of good online sources: I love the daily plate, but all of the ones I list are good....

Get back to journaling. This will help you identify when you feel like eating. Stress factors and or time of the day. Once you identify when and what then put in place some factors to keep you from doing so. For example, if you find you are eating more at night. Then sign up for a dance class or something fun you like to do. A craft class, get out of the house.
Eat your protein! Eat your protein first! I promise you, if you eat your protein often and first and enough of it. YOU WILL NOT BE HUNGRY!
Try eating more often during the day. Every 2 3 hours if you can.
Now the KEY TO success and losing the weight and keeping it off....are you ready? You may not like it but it WORKS!!!
Exercise - if you don't like a gym, take a class, try different things and find something you like that gets you moving. Try dance lessons, horse back riding, swimming. Find something and DO IT! You will feel better about yourself and the energy level will go through the roof.
Come to my thread I do, called Move to Lose and we will help you keep on track.
Go to a support group meeting often
Surround yourself with people that are supportive and will help not hurt you.
I think this will give you a good start. Please keep me posted and email me anytime, here on OH.
I am here for you and you can do it.
YOU GO GIRL!!! YOU CAN DO IT!

mags..
Wrote a reply to this earlier...but it must have gone out to cyber space somewhere! Who knows? Anyway...what I was trying to say was that the idea of the 5DPT was really not to lose weight. I lost 4 gained back 2...This test is to get off the bad habits you might have started and get back to basics.
You kill the carb cravings and if gives you back the confidence that you need to regain control and not weight. It took a wekk after the test and I lost 1.1 lbs. Then it started...I lost ten lbs in a month...Then I had these 2-3 "rubber pounds" ...that what I call it when they don't know if they are leaving or staying...and I was soooo frustrated trying to steady the reading. I couldn't get my 10 lbs to stabilize.
I started journaling my food intake and learned that I eat such a variety of foods that my calorie intake varies wildly from day to day. Between 1000-1500 ish. That's quite a hop! No wonder I can steady the scale! So I try to keep my intake somewhat close to 1300 calories...I averaged two weeks of calories and I come out to median of 1288 a day. So that's what I want to try to do everyday. I want to see if I maintain or gain or lose. This way I will have an idea what I need to do when I need to do something one way or the other.
I don't know how long it will take before I figure out what works...but maybe you should journal your intake and then go from there. Keep it honest and you can only win with what you learn about yourself. You can post it in the accountability thread or keep it to yourself until you understand WHY you are gaining. It will show you why. It's quite revealing. I post mine everyday now...It's quite interesting to go back and see how the foods you thought were light are heavy and the food you thought were heavy are not! I also notice things I didn't pay attention to..like fat intake. (I'm not worried about fat but the calories ADD UP) I haven't really tried to do anything yet except see my eating behavior and try different combos to get my protein higher and calories/fat lower. Carbs are deceptive because I eat complex carbs...so they are often a bit higher than most. I've actually cut back on my carbs because I don't have the room for protein otherwise!
I'm still learning about me, just when I thought I knew all about myself...I realize...oh no I don't!
I think just cutting out a few hundred calories a day will make a huge difference for you. For me, It was going easy on the oils I use daily. Maybe you have something small but high calorie you can give up? or cut back?
Good luck,
Anita
