Sugar issues / dumping after 3 years?

Just wondering what it's like for others ... I am 3+ years out from WLS. Whenever I eat much sugar, I get the shakes, sweating and the whole thing.  I can handle a LITTLE sugar but to eat a piece of pie for example, would be just out of the question.  Especially on am empty stomach. It's worse at some times than others but ... does everybody else still do this?   I know I have no business eating pie - but occasionally I try to indulge and almost always pay the price!!!! Kitty

Hi Kitty, I am close to being 3 years out and still dump.  My threshold is about 12+ grams of sugar and fatty foods.   It's still a very yucky feeling, and will mostly happen when I am eating out or am over at a friend's house and don't realize that I was served something that was too high in sugar/fat.  Now I completely admit, there are times when I also indulge but will take a bite or sip too much and will pay dearly for it.  But if I do indulge, I 99% of the time know ahead of time what I will be satisfied with/what I can handle.   Now recently I have noticed that my threshold has risen to about 18 grams of sugar...which is alittle scary. So I have stayed away from sugars/fats and carbs in general for about two weeks to reprogram myself.   I hope this helps. :) ~Shannon

I will be 5 years out in June, and I still get dumping symptoms. I get them more strongly if I've completely stayed away from sugar for a long time. Most recently, I had mild dumping after eating a weigh****chers Just 2 points bar! So, yeah, I can still be very sensitive.

I'm 4 years out and I can handle about 18-20g of sugar. But sugar is not really my thing anyway. I ate a protein bar today that had 17g and I ate it when I was hungry and it didn't bother me at all. (Although I did get a tiny little bit of gas shortly after) The bar itself was just the right size and didn't have a lot of fat.  I have noticed that if I had eaten something high in both fat and sugar, and calories even though mass wise it might weigh the same...I would have doubled over in pain. I also notice that when I eat from head hunger and not from belly hunger I would have dumped on that 17 g protein bar!  So yes, sometimes it's just different, if you really pay atttention you'll know when you can and cannot eat something rich in sugar or fat.  I can eat a narrow piece of pie with no trouble, if I haven't just eaten a meal and pay close attention to what I am feeling. If after one bite, I feel just a little weird inside, I stop immediately and will even spit it out rather than swallow what's left in my mouth! I eat until I begin to feel any type of satisfaction and I stop...That is usually perfect for the taste and the brain and belly catches up... There's really no reason to not try things you like even if it's a bite. The tricky part is to know when to stop and be able to do that with great precision!  IF you can't...you already know the outcome! You just have to pay close attention to your pouch when you decide to indulge and stop at satisfaction... especially with sugary or fatty foods. See if that helps...You don't have to give up everything...Just 3/4 of it! Anita

Of course your dumping... its the tool working !! Why push yourself and test it?  Take a few bites and leave it at that then say "Thank you weightloss surgery "   LOL Im hoping I still dump after three years !! Have a super day

Linda you are right.   Usually I don't cheat, in fact I'm pretty meticulous about my diet and have bragging rights for excellent lab results.  But ... you are right - I need to take a few bites EACH TIME and leave it at that!   I like your comment about "keeping it off" is the hard part.  Really true because that involves change. And I truly AM thankful for WLS!    Kitty

I dumped yesterday.  Half a waffle w/sugarfree syrup.  Tasted great but wasn't worth the aftermath.  45 minutes of reaction.  It was my third dump in just over 2 years.  Great tune up  Refined carb in general is my enemy.  Flour is worse than sugar for me.  I love bread, pasta, generally anything with refined wheat.  Sooooo - thank you WLS and my built in reminders.  This is so

I hit 5 years lst week, and yep, I still jump.  About 20 grams is my limit.  I almost never eat that much at a sitting as it takes me two weeks to get over it because one little bite makes me a snarling, rabid sugar fiend.  (lovely image, yes?) I am thrilled I still dump.  Heaven only knows what michief I would be up to without my constant behavior modification tool. Traci 303/131 ps. I do eat Cadbury eggs around Easter time in spite of the fact that they make me ill.  So from roughly late Feb to April I am the above mentioned fiend.  LOL

OOO OOooo!!  I love the Cadbury mini eggs... OMG.... they are just one of my biggest downfalls!!  I bought one bag a few weeks ago, and stil have some left and that's a HUGE triumph for me, lol.

I like those kind too with the hard shell and the chocolate middle.  I make myself ill though with the ones with the pure sugar goo inside that looks like and egg white with the yolk.  I am a dork, I know.  LOL Traci 303/131
