i joined last week and am doing the flex plan.  I think that is what it is--I am counting the points.  I have belonged to WW several times before, but never wrote food down or counted much, but I am this time.  I got myself a 'diet-minder' from Amazon.  It has columns for fat, carbs, protein, etc.  There is also an extra column that I am putting my points in.  I am still drinking lots of protein drinks.  I write them down and count the protein and points for them along with carbs, etc.   WW does not require that you count anything other than points, but I am tracking the other stuff, too. I think I have lost a couple of pounds.  I have gained 13 pounds from my lowest weight and would love to lose it permanently.  I hurt my knee and have not been able to exercise for about 6 weeks now.  Also I have had revision to TT/BL and my arms done two weeks ago, so I am not exercising much now.  I have started back to walking and am taking dance lessons.  I was taking spinning and pwoer lifting at gym but can not do that now.  Patricia 262/125/138.2 hi/low/WW beginning weight RNY 3/11/2005

I am doing WW. I am on my 4th week. I have been banded for 9 months. My fill doc (I was banded in mexico) recommended it. I was losing fine, slow and steady and working out, I just felt I was missing the support that folks with local doctors and nuts had. I also wanted to learn some "real world" eating skills and not need to rely on protein drinks and the like quite so much. I have been doing really well. I am doing flex and have lost about 3 pounds a week. I don't mind keeping track of the points at all. I still eat my protein first and veg second and watch my carbs, but I feel like I am gaining some good eating skills that I was lacking.

You are probably wise to learn to eat real food.  I am bad about drinking protein drinks and eating bars.   I am going to work on that.  Hopefully WW will help. Patricia

Just another thought, I am to have 18 points, plus 35 points per week that I can either eat or not eat.  My first plan was to not eat the extra 35, but I seem to always get over 18, so I am getting into the 35.  I think I am doing this partly because of the protein drinks and bars.  Also I wonder if because of the malasorbation I have with the RNY, getting over the 18 points is not a big deal. I'm on WW, the flex plan. I am almost 5 years out, had some regain and wanted to take weight off. I had tried a low-carb, high protein routine which helped somewhat, but it didn't get me where I wanted to be.  After my  LBL, I decided I wanted to take off some more before heading back in for the arms & breasts. It's slow going, but it's going, and I am enjoying it. I follow the points plan and I don't use hardly any of the extra weekly points. However, I'm in the 24 point a day range. If I were in the 18, you know I'd be using up those weekly points, lol. I am a lb. or two away from my absolute lowest weight. I like going to the meetings, I like the support and the weigh-ins that keep me honest. I joined online for the monthly pass, so I can go to meetings and use the online tools. I keep track of everything I eat using the online tools. I tend to bring a WW or Lean Cuisine frozen dinner with me for lunch at work, and I keep oranges in my drawer.  I've found some great things to eat by reading both the Weigh****chers and the Hungry Girl websites. Don't count on the malabsorption from the RNY working after more than a couple of years, btw. Research is showing that the body overcompensates and starts drawing even more from food, through the villi in the intestines. That's one of the reason for regain.

Thanks for the response. How much have you lost? Do you eat the carbs too???AND you think if I join I shouldn't have to do the core plan.

I've been following the flex plan, counting the points, and yes, I've eaten carbs. I try for multi-grain foods and not white flours. I didn't like the core plan because I know I need to be strict, and an all-you-can-eat of certain foods will lead me to eating everything else. Typical breakfast: 1 egg fried with cooking spray, 1 Thomas' light multi-grain English muffin with some sprays of Smart Balance buttery burst, coffee with skim milk. Total points: 4. Sometimes I'll have sugar-free instant oatmeal (A&P's house brand) and that's only 2 points. A 1/2 cup serving of Fiber one has no points. Lunch - a weigh****chers or lean cuisine frozen dinner, generally 6 points. Dinner - Shady Brook Farms turkey cutlets (4 oz. is only 2 points), I've found I can mash Fiber one and use that as breading, or I'll have sashimi (I pick the lower point fish like tuna and yellowtail), broiled fish like flounder or tilapia, and added veggies.  The new Progresso Light soups are 0 points per serving. My treats are sugar free Swiss Miss cocoa, an occasional weigh****chers ice cream, a Laughing Cow light cheese wedge, or even one of the hostess 100 calorie packs of the cupcakes. I get my protein in with turkey, fish and eggs. You can check the backs of the frozen dinners, some of them have an impressive amount of protein. I've gone from 194 to 176 in 5 weeks. Not bad for someone who is as long out as I am. :) I think my body needed the switch to the low-fat diet.
