this may seem like a silly ?? It's not for me but a friend. She had WLS 2 yrs ago & has recently (3-4 months)started not wanting to eat. She says food has no appeal to her. She lives alone & has no desire to fix it or eat it. I ( jokeingly ) said your hole is going to close if you don't eat food. And after thinking about it she asked if it could. I told her I didn't know & would ask all my friends on OH. So what do you think. Can our pouches close up if we don't eat? I bet she doesn't get in 300 cal. in a full day from food. She does drink 3-4 protein shakes though. So she is getting some nutrition in.not enouph though. She says I'm jelouis because I can't seem to lose at the moment. I'm in a yr long stall. lol. not funny but true.  Brenda

Our pouches will not close up from not eating, but it is possible to have a late onset stricture. Your friends needs to contact her surgeon for an endoscopy.

Damn, I wish mine would close.  It seems to be huge.  Yea, it's been about a year long stall for me too.  Very fustrating. But back to your friend - maybe she's depressed and can't eat.  Of course that only made me eat more.  But for some people they stop eating. Or she could be at the beginning stages of anoriexia. Hope not. good luck. Koukla

Hmmm, could be many things. Stricture jumps to mind and also the other poster's thoughts on depression or possible transfer addiciton from overeating to anorexia. Wow, she's not taking in very many calories daily. I hope that she faithfully drinks those protein shakes. Is she taking her vits?? It might seem great not to be able to eat, but she's on a slippery slope there~being malnurished can do all sorts of bad things to our bodies. Also, if she has a workout routine, she's not taking in nearly enough calories to support any type of physical activity in a healthy way. Consuming too few calories can lead to heart problems among many other things. So, I guess I'm saying I wouldn't be jealous at all~I'd be concerned for her health and well being.

Brenda I would not worry, if she gets hungry she will eat. I am 3 yrs post and I do shakes every day and vitamins. She is probably like me just not a foodie. I do not think about food much and most times if I don'****ch the clock I will forget my shake and wantg to crunch. My shakes are 270 with extra protein added  and 160 grams of total protein for day that is plenty. I wouldn't keep commenting to her if you want to stay friends. She may feel you are an enabler and she is in control. People who do this to me I cut out of my life...JMHO

Brenda, by all means you don't want to be jealous of your friend.....there appears to be a underlying condition she needs to deal with, whether it is a stricture, depression, aneroxia, etc.......I hope she realizes this is so unhealthy and longterm health issues will creep up if she doesn't get control of the situation.
