"so I would guess she is either a LOT smaller than her original weight OR had a TT post op and isnt gaining the weight to her waist as she once did." Sure, she was 300ish previously, and 140-150 in the end - and had plastics.  Now, she's about 200-215, and it's not hanging at the gut, because she's tight there still.  :)  She's still a gorgeous woman no matter what.

You guys did not see her last night.  Those pics that  you saw... I have to admit... they looked okay. But I'm talking about the talk show. (not the country show).  The talk show she was on is the most recent of her on TV.  She was really a lot bigger than those pics.  Anyways, just wanted to clarify.  Bless her (our) hearts!

Things that had to do with her regain include:
style in which her surgery was done (this was connected thus and so on)

program she was given was one I call the "auto regain" in that it limits good foods and stresses intake of bad foods that lead to regain. a person can be totally faithful to a bad program and have regain.

her family genetics are strongly chubby

THEN the whole whateer stressors and such all kick in.

Regain can happen to anyone, regardless of surgery type, of course. Some bodies just WANT to be heavier. But there are so many mechanical issues that can happen!

Michelle-- What was this 'auto regain' program she was put on? My post op program didn't work out for me. I only recently started figuring out how to eat to lose (and eventually maintain) and I'm 6 years out! Another factor in her weight gain: pregnancy. It can really getcha!

WEll, I'm about 100 yrs too old for babies, so at least I'm safe from THAT one. LOL Besides, I was so busy hurling during my pregnancies, I didn't gain wt anyway.

OK, I'd prefer not to be flamed for my opinions but here they are:
most nutriton programs are vastly under supplemented (which opens you to bizarre cravings, my favorite example being pica which is iron deficiency--craving ice and dirt and such).

most use the original food pyramid, which is carb and sugar heavy, so based on milk and oatmealy type things to g et the calories on board. we don't need the calories! we're tying to lose WEIGHT here!

some dietitians have created the WLS pyramid, which in essence, flips the original over so the base is protein, tippy top is carbs. See? that's the one you want.

avoid fats, but don't worry about sugar. So, avoid the 2% fat in milk, but don't give a thought to the 12g of sugar. Drink 3 cups a day, so 1.5 Snickers bars worth of sugar.

as long as a food is fat free, it's safe (which in a large way helped us reach surgical candidacy!)

eat protein foods first (not bad), and just eat a lot and you won't need protein drinks. sadly, a good protein drink is NOT a bad thing, but most recommended plans offer very BAD ones.

some programs insist you sit and eat 4-6-8 oz of food very early out, just sit there til you get it in, even if it takes an hour. So, you learn to graze, stretch pouch, right out of the gate. Grazing being, feel full, wait, eat more, feel full, wait, eat more. See? My docs had this radical concept of keeping pouch original size til goal wt! So, 1-2 oz meals, done in 15 minutes, ready or not. Feel full? Stop, you're done.

You Can get plenty of NUTRITION (supplementally) without having to jam in calories and carbs. Carbs fuel appetite, fats satisfy.

Labs are annual. Prefer quarterly til you see how your body will be, then 6 months. FOR LIFE. You get copies, run a spread sheet. Never GET deficient and you never have to catch up.

OK, enough heresy and radical speaking on this.

You make perfect sense to me! I kept being told that after a few months out, I should be able to get all my protein from whole food, no protein supplements needed after that. I took WAY too little in the way of vitamins and iron supplements, and three blood transfusions and a round of weekly IV iron treatments later, I decided that I was going to move in a completely different direction. Some roll their eyes at the small handful of vitamins & etc. I take 4x a day, and that I'm using protein supplements again 6 years out, but dang it-- this is the best I've felt post op, and my labs finally look great, and I've lost all the weight I regained and more, and I'm still losing (I never reached my goal). They can roll their eyes if they want to. I'm sticking with what works for my body.
