Hey Everyone, I always wondered about the number of calories burned on the exercise equipment.  Of course when it was high I said that is right, but when it was low I would say no way Early on I learned to always wear a  heart rate monitor to get the true number of cals burned.  If you live and breath by those numbers then check out this news report from our local station.  They just proved what I thought all along. http://www.nbc5.com/health/15420925/detail.html This is very important if you are the type that says, ok I burned an extra 500 cals today so I can have this or that.  You will be gaining weight and say, how the heck did I do that  I work out, I burned X number of cals every day Keep Moving my friends, but make sure  you have an accurate picture of your working and calories burned  Take care, Kathy

Awwwww, see now you've gone and spoiled my evening   and there I was thinking that I was burning up nearly 500 calories each 30 minutes I am on my stepper. (I did always take it with a pinch of salt though as thought there is no way I could have used up that many, but it did make me feel virtuous hehe) I try to view it as extra calories ontop of my reduced eating anyway and any exercise is a bonus, plus hopefully building muscle to increase metabolism. Thanks Kathy, have a great weekend and keep on shovelling that snow - whoopie, we've been forcast for having snow next week - that means we MAY get a few flakes, yaboo sucks

Kathy, I've never trusted the numbers.....even though I don't do it often, *sigh*, I wish I loved exercise like you.......ok saying this I saw people post they burned xxx calories in xx minutes on xx machine and I didn't get those figures when I used my elliptical or treadmill.

It depends as well on if you do your cardio before, or after weight training.  If you lift before cardio you have burned through more of your glycogen store and are more likely to get to the fat burn in your cardio, which can result in the calorie burn for some , higher.

Hi fellow movers, Sorry I have been not well w a cold that is sitting in my chest now and I am barking as well as the 2 labs! I have usually used the monitors as a guide and tend not to use it as a reward to have that "one snack more".  Most of the times I find I crave the water more than another snack if I worked out that day. OT, but I was able to post a 2 lb loss on  my weight tracker today!  That means only 33 to go for my spring/summer goal and 8 for my April 1st goal. It took me a minute looking at my history of my weight tracker to relize if I was there once I can do it again! (my lowest is 190, I'm at 208 now) THIS HAS TRUELY MOTIVATED ME! So my "tip" of the day is sometimes take a look back, see where we were and remember we control how good it can be where we are going! Love, hugs and motivation to all, Tmac
