Can we use ALLI to re-lose weight?

Hi everyone, I have been re-gaining an awful lot of weight, and am extremely depressed about it.  I cannot believe how fast I'm gaining.  I have been eating and binging, just like before my surgery, and it's because I eat for comforting, certain foods make me feel better(mentally) and I completely forget my problems and stresses for a while.  Certain foods have become my "best friends" all over again.    I have re-gained almost 50 lbs of the 100 lbs that I originally lost.  Has anyone out there had a successful experience with ALLI?  I am so desperate for some help with losing some of this weight I've re-gained.  I don't think I can be happy again until I do.  I just cannot believe I'm fat all over again.    Also, does the 5 day pouch test really work?   Thanks, Rhonda

I would, personally, avoid ALLI. I re-gained 40 lbs. I did the 5 day pouch test starting on Jan 7th. I have stuck to basics and rules of the pouch since that day and have lost 17 of those pounds so far. It CAN be done. Protein first. Measure your portions. Watch the carbs. I also get in 100 grams of protein and 100 oz of water. It just takes work, but you can do it!

I actually tried Xenical which is the prescription strengh of Alli.  I have to say that after month of being on it I only lost a few pounds.  I think it's because, as a rule, my diet is already less than 30% fat.

Pre-Revision: 228 - I had my second baby Feb. 18, 2009
Current Weight: 186 I had a revision via lap to my RnY on August 18, 2009

I'm right with you. Definately do the 5 day pouch test first. I went thru the same thing as you so many times it's unreal. Over & over... how can I lose what I've regained...what can I try etc. Depressed & down again. Then, I realized. I had surgery. I needed to go back to what I was doing after surgery & retrain myself how a lifestyle after WLS is suppose to be. And that begins with what I put in my mouth & how much. I quit buying the food I shouldn't be eating & now only get what I SHOULD be eating...this support group...excercise when I can...vitamins...protein shakes...water 30 min. after eating. I try anything that will help motivate me. Reviewing the O.H. site is also enlightening. Other forums & posts.  I started with the 5 day pouch test. I'm not perfect but, avoid the temptations now & have done so much better since I follow the rules.  Sorry you feel bad but remember...you're not alone ! Hope things get better for ya soon ! Take care

Hi, Rhonda. I just started back on OH the last few days, and let me tell you, I FEEL YOUR PAIN!! I am so shameful, everything I've put my body through, everything I've put my family through!! :-( How could I start gaining weight again?...But, I've been reading the wls grad forum, and I'm starting to realize, I'm not alone!! Just getting back here on OH, where I started my wls journey, has been my first step. Now, slowly I'm taking everything in from the forum, I am getting ready to start the 5dpt on Saturday. I think we're in the best possible place for our support. I just want you to know, I had lap rny 6/22/01-start weight was 284, my lowest weight (for 5 minutes!!) was 138, but I was steady between 142-146. I'm about 200 now, and know its time for basics. PROTEIN, PROTEIN PROTEIN!!:-) So, here we go! I've tried hoodia, no real success, and was also thinking about Alli, but, here is where I feel we can get better results, because we all know what we are going through. Best to you, and all of us dealing with difficulties! Take Care Diana Mora

Hey there, I struggled with a regain as well. The 5dpt was my first step in losing again. So I would have to say that yes it did work for me. That was only a jumpstart for me, I really had to change the way that i was living, and take it back to 3 protein shakes a day, 100oz of water, and slowly but surely exercise ( I even like it again).  I understand how you're feeling, I couldn't believe that I was fat all over again either, I'm sure people taled and I felt like a failure. Thank heavens I am on the right track ,and I pray that you will have continued success.

Aliya....and lovin it

http://www.5daypouchtest.com/ This test is perfect for you!  I was eating that way for a few months during the holidays...And I cannot say enough about it. It really changed me back into the (almost) model WLS patient I had been for four years! I'm back on track...I feel soooo much better, mentally and physically. Please give it a try. With what you describe this is the perfect way to get back to a really good start!   I'm serious...This test is pure genius for those of us who get so off the pouch rules. After the test, you feel so inspired that you truly begin to make necessary changes to your eating. Do it and stay and post...we'll keep you motivated if that's what you need!  You have some work ahead of you...but you can do it a pound at a time.  Hugs, Anita
