Did You Move To Lose Today? How do you know if you are training to hard?

Hey Everyone,

What a day....it appears our friends in FL are getting hit  hard with storms. Stay safe ok

I made it to the gym last night for my boxing class, but by the time we were done it was a blizzard.  I just made it home  I wanted to go to the gym this am but didn't make it.  Once the sun came out I ran up to the local store and bought a set of adjustable free weights.  Enough of this not being able to work out due to weather  So, I should be able to go to my kick boxing class tonight.  Doing a push day here at home. How do you know if you are training to hard?

It can be hard to find that perfect balance.  You may noticed your strength will decrease or you fatigue quickly.  Also, you may experience mood swings.  So if you are burning a lot of energy in your workouts but are lethargic the rest of the day, your over doing it.

When you are burning a lot of energy during your workouts, your muscles are sore and you genuinely have a lot of energy during the rest of the day, this tells you...you are on the right track.  To prevent over training, try and enjoy and be disciplined with your rest periods.  Keep in mind the rest time doesn't have to mean no movement, just change it up a bit to maintain  your calorie expenditure.  Keep the heart active, but more importantly give yourself the chance to be at your optimal level. - article from Oxygen mag by Art McDonald.
So my friends, Did You Move To Lose and or Maintain Today?  No matter what the weather we can do it.  May swear a few bad words here and there, (put the profanity filter on) but we can do it

Stay Sexy, Strong and Sassy!!!

Take care,
Kathy

Hi everyone We had wonderful Spring weather today so walked around the block (about 1/2 mile) to take my daughter to the park, then did my stepper, arm weights and stomach crunches.  Feeling good and hoping the muscles are getting stronger.  I'm also hoping I'll see some results on the scales soon too.

Hi Kathy and everyone else, I walked my hour and got in an extra lap.  walked 46 laps in 1 hour 2 minutes average heart rate was 163 max heart rate was 181.  I actually sweat during this walk.  I usually dont,  maybe a little shiny nose but that is it.  Today my hair was actually wet.  I feel really good.  I have a 1pm appointment with the guy at the gym.  Does anyone have an opinion as to what time of day is best for working out? I try and go during lunch most days but sometimes I go at 4.  I was thinking about starting before work but don't know if I would actually do that,  I am not a morning person.  Here is a question I posted from the last move to lose, any feed back would be appreciated:  I really need to come up with routine for the weekend.  I am consistant during the week and then I take two days off.  When I walk on monday,  I am so tired,  I do the whole walk but I really feel it.  I am going to start strength training.  Someone is going to work with me tommorow.  I can dedicate a whole hour every week day to fitness so the excuse that I don't have the time just doesn't work for me.  Do you have an opinion on what could work well for me?  I dont now if I should walk 3 days and strength train 2 or if I should walk half the time everyday and lift everyday the other half hour.  When the snow and mud are gone hopefully soon I have a beautiful 1 hour walk that I do with my dog and I can do that in addition to what I do now, but that has to wait for the weather.  I found out that my BMR is 1630 calories and I never eat that much. I bumped up my caloric intake a few weeks ago because I think I was too low.  I average about 1200-1300 a day.  Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.  The person who is going to help me tommorow is not a trainer,  he is someone who works at the fitness center I go to.  I have access to some great equipment too.  I love my heart rate monitor and my pedometer!  My husband bought me an MP3 player and my kids helped me load it,  my 9 year old had to help me sync the songs,  how funny is that.  Thanks to anyone *****plies to me.

Hi Dana, Hmmmmmm, great question.  I know the BEST time to workout is first thing in the AM.  That being said the best time is when you can do it.  I am not a morning person and find it's hard for me.  Here is what I do, I kinda mix it up. Monday - gym 8:30 am - boxing 6:30pm Tuesday - gym 8:00 am - kick boxing 6:30pm Weds - gym 8:30 - boxing 6:30 Thurs - gym 8:00 - kick boxing 6:30 Friday - gym 8:00 - boxing 6:30 Saturday - gym 8:30 - boxing 11:45 Sunday - boxing 11:45 I take a couple of days off depending on how I feel....  I have asked Jeremy for his expert opinion on your other questions.  He is the guru of exercise here on the boards  Take care, Kathy

You people make me sick!!!!  Boxing--kick boxing--46 laps!!!!  I am a total exercise drop-out!!! Surgery 11/28/06--start weight 228lbs.  Current 158.  Very happy with my weight loss.  Would like to lose another 10lbs.  If I don't okay--if I do, great!! Exercise---yuck!!  I try, and I try, and I try to get into it.  Cannot get into it or stick with it!! I do not "like" anything!!  I have exercise videos--aerobics/walking.  Not bad (kind of fun) but cannot stick with it for more than 1 week.  Have a treadmill in the living room--got on it the other night--made it 20 minutes at 1.7 mph!!  WOW--I thought I would die!!!  I am in TERRIBLE shape!!! I KNOW it is so good for my health.  I would love the benefit to my general strength. With my schedule and the schedule of my family there is no time to "buddy" up with someone.  I will have to attack this exercise thing alone if I am going to do it at all. Would be nice if I could look into a crystal ball and see what I would feel and look like if I stuck with exercise for 6 months!!!  I would (I'm sure) be surprised as to the difference it would make. Seriously, "you make me sick" is translated "I am jealous" of your stamina to exercise and stick with it. Any suggestions or "visions" to share would be appreciated. Thanks for all your posts--I love reading them even if I don't "follow" them!!! Blessings, Robin
