Surgeon Makes Unilateral Decision

>During ELECTIVE SURGERY, your surgeon is only supposed to perform the operation for which you paid your money.  He/she has neither the legal nor the moral authority to make decisions about your body without your consent. < So based on that assumption, I should have had my surgeon put back my gallbladder???  My pre-op ultrasound was normal.  However, my gallbladder was not.  I'm grateful he used his many years of experience and good judgement to remove the danged thing so I wouldn't have problems in the future. As for pouch size, mine was about 15 ml.  I now can eat about 4 oz.  Be glad your surgeon enabled you to lose wt effectively.  At 355 pounds with a 52 " waist, you definitely were morbidly obese.  I was a light weight and I'm glad my pouch is as small as it is.

Im gonna side with you on this and agree with you. The surgeon should have told you what exactly to expect. If something was gonna change during surgery, then he should have told you of that possibility. I had a dentist do pretty much the same thing...he thought he was being nice to me...it pissed me off. Im  sure everyone *****sponded to you would not be happy if the were going in to get the band and came out with the RNY (or vice versa) because the doctor decided it would be better for you! I do believe that some things are not known until they get in there but your doctor should have informed you of the various possibilites of what might change during the surgery. (Mine did)  If your statement is true regarding elective surgeries....then you know what you gotta do...lawsuit. Keep in mind thought that many of your problems are experienced by many people regardless of how tall, short, big or small they were....the surgery has risks By the way, this board is exactly where you need to post info like this because if I was looking into surgery with this doctor I would want to know the good AND bad before I made my decision to use him. One bad comment wouldnt necessarily X him out, but I might look into it a little further if there were several comments like this about him.

Thanks for the support and info on the California Medical Board.  Other patients need to have the info before deciding on another doctor.

Why don't you get over it and grow up?? You yourself described yourself as morbidly obese. I suspect you ate lot (like the rest of us) and he decided that smaller pouch was in order so you maybe you wouldn't stretch it out sooner. So, what is the big deal about the bigger pouch anyway?? I certainly don't hope your looking for a lawsuit......it wont successful, I hope.

I'm not looking for a lawsuit.  I am not looking to maake an extra buck at his practice's expense because I believe even a**holes need to eat and have shelter.  Why don't I get over it?  First of all, it was a decision that wasn't his to make.  Secondly, I was morbidly obese, but I'm 6'5" tall and stretched it out some.  My BMI the date of surgery was 42, certainly not as obese as he thought I was.  I'll get over it in my own time and won't let some sh*thead like you determine when I should grow up.  I don't need wild, uninformed guesses from an idiot like you.

I'm the wife of a physician!! I know that most mal-practice lawsuits are bogus. You know full well you arent suing your doctor directly you are suing his insurance company. It wont go to trial because you know full well that the jury isnt going to be sympatheic to a fat person.

Let me tell you first that by having this type of surgery, you are consenting to allow the physician to perform the procedure and you are agreeing that the physician may have to make certain decisions once he is in the operating room.  I am a nurse and do have experience with this. I had an RNY and I WISH my pouch was smaller.  The sleeve in your case, along with all WLS cases, is meant to stretch somewhat.  There is now documented evidence of weight regain, now more than ever, with many WLS patients in the post op phase several years out.   By having a smaller stomach, you are preserving your weight loss efforts and/or weight loss maintenance.  I had multiple complications after my surgery, but I cannot, nor could I have sued the physician as I signed consents as to the fact that I was having a surgery that COULD go bad, end my life etc.  If you want to warn others of this particular physican, you are posting on the wrong site.  We don't need warning as we all had surgery already.   It seems that you are too afraid to post with your real name, hence you made this bogus profile to spout off your anger. You also don't have a right to bully others, call them names when they did nothing wrong, etc. It doesn't make you a bad person to have been morbidly obese.  You had to have been obese or you would not have been able to qualify for this surgery.  I was obese as well and can admit that.   Hope you can get the help you need to settle this matter.  Lashing out at others will not help but make your life much worse.
