Post-5dpt weigh-in!

I made it through the 5dpt!!  In some ways, it was a l-o-n-g 5 days, but in other ways, it flew by!  I am incredibly glad I did it--what a difference in how I feel (mentally & physically).  Instead of spending another week grazing, feeling guilty, feeling tired, & probably gaining a little more, I feel energized and encouraged that I can keep on track much better! I do have to confess that, unlike some people who have done the 5dpt, I DON'T feel 100% in control!  The bad carbs still sound very tempting to me!!  I know a lot of people have said they have that out of their systems, and although I was EXTREMELY compliant with eating virtually all protein, this morning I could easily cram a donut in my mouth if one was set in front of me!!   But with that said, I DO feel much, much more in control and AWARE of how bad my grazing & choice of foods had gotten.  All week, I was physically very satisfied.  Even while I was off-track, I did not just pig-out, as far as amount eaten at one time; for me, it was just eating too many crappy foods in place of good protein & veggies AND--especially, GRAZING!!!  Bad food + Grazing = weight gain, discouragement, physical tiredness! The result on the scale this morning??  I'm thrilled to report an 8.5 lb. loss!!  Way more than I expected!  Now, I know full well that some of this is from the fact that I was so bad-carb loaded when I started (which for me definitely causes water retention), and I know that even with good veggies & fruits & a little whole wheat bread added in, I will probably rebound a little.  But I hope it's not too much, and I sure do want to continue to lose--about 15 more lbs. at least. I'm curious to hear from the others who were 5dpt-ing this week!  Hang in there, those of you who are still doing it!  I'm sure glad I did!

Always,
Jo

Congratulations and thank you for sharing the whole experience.  I have looked over my calendar for next week.  I AM GOING TO DO IT!  I am not gaining, but I have stopped losing.  I am 15 pounds from goal and not moving downward.  I want to push the edge and make my pounce.  Thanks for being so transparent in sharing the good and the realizations of the whole experience. Best wishes for continued great health and well being! Vicky

Hi Vicky, I really want to commit to the 5DPT too so if you need a buddy, I'd be happy to start on the same day and perhaps we can email each other with encouraging words!  I too have 15 pounds (at least) to get off, this may be a great jump start.

Hi Vicki, I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to reply.  I've been battling bronchitis and laryngitis.  I was hoping to start this coming Tuesday, March 4.  What do you think?  There's another gal on this website that wants to give it a shot too.  Let me know.

Congratulations Jo........8 lbs is awesome!  I'm thinking about doing the 5 day pouch test again only because I am finding myself thinking of food more, most of the time I do well but I could see myself slowly venturing off.  I should have the AchievOnes I ordered in on Wednesday so probably next Monday I'll do it again. I like the feel of control from the 5dpt, I don't care to lose any I just want to keep the ship sailing smoothly so occassionally I think this will help me. Kuddos again!  Stay away from the donut, lol and keep charging lady you'll see progress! Hugs,

Jo, that's fantastic!!!!! Doesn't it feel so good to accomplish the 5 days!!!!  I have to agree that both times that I did it I never got that "tight" feeling that some describe. I wish I would have, but it didn't seem to happen. It did, as you said, make me much more aware of what I was putting in my mouth and simple things like eggs and cottage cheese tasted better than they had in months!

Jo, thank you for sharing your experiencees with the 5DPT this week...I have really learned a lot reading them.  This evening is the end of day five for me and I'm glad to see it come to an end!  Like you, I don't feel 100% in control but there is a lot more control than there was five days ago and that in itself was worth it.  Plus, I do feel the pouch has tightened up very well and feeling those meats do their jobs of filling it up is encouraging.   What I *didn't* like getting out of it was a newfound loathing for meat.  It is going to be darned hard to look at another piece of turkey sausage or eggs any time soon.  All I want is veggies, fruits and my whole grains back!  Tomorrow morning I am going to luxuriate in a cottage cheese pancake and sf syrup breakfast with a sploog of sf whipped cream on top.  Ahhh.... Sure glad that my size four jeans fit again and I can't wait to get on the scale in the morning and see what the final tally comes out to.  Today it was down 8# but I'm worried about the sodium in all that turkey sausage...if it goes up tomorrow I may sit and cry.     Looking forward to doing this again but probably not for the full five days.  Maybe like MelissaF a few days of liquids a week or maybe just a few all-protein days.
