Anyone have any experience with this? I'm thinking this could be the problem with my rashes and hives.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Celiac Disease is the inability to digest wheat products. My daughter has it. The symptom she gets is digestive - bad pain. Never heard of anyone getting hives from it. Have you looked into an antibody test like the panel that tests for food allergies. There is a 96 item panel that my daughter did to find out just what she was allergic to. Made a huge difference in her life. Here is a link to a lab that does it http://www.usbiotek.com/Services-Antibody.htm. There is lots of information on that site - my daughter had gone to a naturapath doctor who ordered it for $120. If you order it yourself, it costs over $300. Diona

You're in the part of the country where my aunt lives who also has Celiac Disease (Choteau MT). I wasn't thinking in this direction but she mentioned it in a letter to me so I emailed her and told her about my rash/hives that have been going on since just after surgery. She said that it's some of the symptoms occasionally or a strain of the disease. And apparently it's hereditary. If my doctor orders the test, I think the insurance will pay for it but I'm just gathering info now. I'm thinking it's mild with me but it's still very possible, my allergist believes it's autoimmune and Celiac Disease is also autoimmune..So we'll see.

From what I've been reading, the connection is this.. The intestines develop a reaction to gluten in foods and it causes the silia in the intestines to flatten out. That causes loss of absorption in the intestines (as if we need more of THAT) and so the proper nutrients aren't absorbed correctly...This causes a vitamin deficiency apparently and that's what's causing my mini-symptoms. I've got this horrible rash, my hair which started to thicken up at 6 months, thinned out again and is half what it was post surgery, I get muscle cramps in my legs like I did when I was pregnant with my kids (calcium magnesium and zinc took care of that before...Not now).  I'm just looking for answers and sometimes it helps to post.

Dermatitis Herpetiformis  is part of this disease and when I looked up the description of it it says:  It produces red, raised (papular), small or large blisters (vesicles or bullae) that burn and itch intensely. Dermatitis herpetiformis develops suddenly, lasts for weeks to months, and may be associated with digestive diseases (such as Celiac disease).  Yup. And the picture of it is exactly what was on my arms and legs. NOW I have something to tell the PCP today. It can be treated with antibiotics but is controlled by a gluten free diet.. Sheesh. As if I don't have enough food issues. Now I can't even have a sugar free cookie.
