Hello everyone, I don't often post here on the board alot but I read it at least two or three times a day. This is a very supportive group so I decided to post. Okay here it goes.....I'm depressed today because I have gained weight. Let me give you a little history. I had gastric bypass 07/04. I was 256 lbs only lost about 81 pounds. My lowest weight was 165 in 2006 after I had a baby and breast feed. Once I stopped breast feeding I tobbled back up to 179. My weight has been stable since then maybe up a pound or two down etc. Well I've been working out twice a week with a personal training for 4 weeks. Yesterday was my weigh in day as well as inch measurement. I'm sad to report I gained a whopping 6 pounds. I feel like such a failure  So I told myself I'm going to start the 5 day pouch test today with hopes of loosing weight. Now it's only 10:24 a.m. and all I can think about is food and what I want to eat. I'm thinking about joining weigh****chers. Have any of you had any success with it? I tried this pouch test thing once before and I didn't even make it through the first day! Please help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just curious... you say it was weigh-in day as well as inch measurement... so... what about the inch measurement?  Did you also gain inches?  Or did you lose inches and the 6 pounds could be some muscle mass gain?   Angie

Oh sorry forgot to include yes I gained an 1 inch in the waist and an 1 1/2 in the thigh. After I got on the scale, the trainer said to me "what are you eating?" I was crushed. I believe my biggest problem is I'm not a planner. I don't know what I'm going to eat from one minute to next but I try real hard to make good food choices. I felt those six pounds on Monday when I made a comment to my girlfriend at lunch that I thought it was time to retire my outfit....lol The shirt was a little snug and the pants around the waist were killing me but yet and still I was sitting there eating 2 pieces of fried catfish at two big onion rings. I'm just a mess!

You're  not a mess... you're normal! :-) I was getting way waaaaay out of control myself... But I finally figured out that if I didn't get my doodoo together, I was going to be very very embarrassed. So... as they say "you cannot manage what you cannot measure"... you're going to have to keep track of what you eat first and foremost... I'm pretty sure your calorie intake is pretty high...  You know that fried catfish isn't the best choice... and two pieces... hello! :-)  It's all about choices... and we all have the power to choose... therefore we have the power to make the appropriate changes... it is never too late to say "it stops HERE and NOW".   Instead of thinking about retiring the outfit... think and BELIEVE "It is time to retire this attitude"... yes? What you need is inside you and you CAN turn it around.  Trust me, I know it! :-) Good luck! Angie

Hi, I know how bad it sucks to gain some weight back. I was really down for a while too. And still tend to be from time to time. For me it is a mind set. I keep shifting my thinking to being more positive & excited about losing again since I know I can do it...did it before. I have become really strict with myself to go back to the rules. It didn't happen overnight either. It took me maybe a month to really get it again. I tried new things I had never ate...Brand cereal for fiber...Dannon lite yogurt...south beach protein bars. Green tea packets to get my water in. I totally cut out breads & pasta. The scale finally started to move. With that said, I take day by day & stay motivated. Knowing that I still have more to lose I think of 5-10 lbs at a time so I keep down the frustration level :) Believe me, you're not alone ! YOU CAN DO IT !

Hi there! So glad you posted.. good for you!  I can understand why you are upset about all of this but remember the big picture and how much you still have lost and how much better your life is than before surgery.. Going on the 5DPT is a good way to get back to basics and get the carb monster off your back. You don't have to follow a 5DPT if u don't want to but i can tell u being on the protein liquid diet the past couple days I have NO cravings for carbs unlike the past 6 weeks when I waking up in the middle of the night and getting a protein bar (duh bad). I was out of control and my reactive hypoglycemia was letting me know by having low sugars 4-5 times a day! I know you are hungry now but force yourself to go to all protein (food wise) with maybe some low carb veggies.. broccoli, cauliflower, salad and just rid of carbs totally other than milk carbs and then slowly start adding them back in... gradually and make sure they are whole grain.  I truly believe our out of control eating is a vicious cycle with too many high glycemic index foods and bad carbs... and for me even too many GOOD carbs do this to me.. but im ultra senstive. Get back to basics.. protein, water, vitamins, exercise and nonstartchy veggies and low fat milk/dairy/cheese.. u can do it. Hang in there!
Hugs, Melissa

You guys are the best! That's why I love this site. I'm hanging in there and I going to make it (I'm going to keep telling myself that) I'm feeling a little better. It's almost 12 and I'm eating cream of chicken soup. I was doing okay until someone popped popcorn and the smell made me hungry so I headed to the kitchen and heated the soup. I'll keep you all posted. I need the encouraging words. Thank you so much!!!!!

Hi There, First of all..please stop beating yourself up. You've self-identified both helpful and harmful things you're doing---so that tells me you're already on the right track. I've been doing lots of processing and thinking/reflecting about what works for me with food and what doesn't. I've been truly trying to tame sugar monsters--chocolate being the worst. One thing I have noticed is that I do better with good quality non-processed foods. I've been buying (and eating ) nice fruit--and good amounts of it---particularly when I'm craving sweets. Sometimes it helps me when I'm feeling driven to emotionally eat---today I "emotionally" ate an orange---probably not the best that I still feel the need to emotionally eat--but I damn sure know it's better for me to do it with an orange as opposed to a bag of chips or m&ms... I also bought, marinated and cooked a bunch of chicken tenders---they're ready to go---high quality, low-fat protein ready to eat. I was noticing a bunch of tomatoes I had on the counter in a bowl when I got home from work today--and thinking I should just make myself a little salad with the fresh oregano I have in the fridge and some olive oil and vinegar...etc etc For me the secret (I think ) is food that healthy, prepped and ready to go---sweet stuff, savory stuff, crunchy stuff, etc. Also, on the exercise---I keep pushing myself just a bit harder...today I was at the gym and on the eliptical by 5:30--I did 35 minutes on the eliptical, then 15 minutes of the bike---then stretched out--I only had one minute for the sauna---but I took my one minute! I go to the gym every work morning--and put in at least an hour--and more if I can. Are you working out on the days when you don't have a trainer?? hang in there...lots of good suggestions---I care! hello,      Don't give up and take it one day at a time and one step at a time. I almost died when i gained 20lbs back after 3 years but i started  doing the 5 dpt on yesterday and i thought it would be hard but it actually wasn't if you get in 8 cups of water and sip on fat free cream soup and your protein shakes you will stay full.  I mix my protein powder that i got from gnc with different flavors of crystal light . But you can do it
