I think in many ways the term "organic" is our new buzz word instead of "lite".

Melting Mel: Yep...sent you a personal email explaining that I misunderstood your question...I buy organic just because it's just my choice since my best friends six year old got cancer and all his food had to be organic to help keep stuff like chemicals/pesticides and plant steriods outta his system while on chemo. (I told you all this)  I did the research...and understand what organic means (years ago) And When I think "organic"  I think ::: closest to nature::: and bad pesticide free...So I think I kinda forgot to explain myself (I'm ditsy sometimes)....But I still believe that I'm getting a better product by people who think "green" (recycle and care about earth and healthy product) and are trying to go back to more natural earth ways. Certified Organic Foods have strict surface tests on products that monitor the level of and types of contaminants in the product in three stages of growth. Because all land, water and air is connected some contaminants are going to get into even the most carefully organically grown crops...Some pesitcides are used..You are certainly right and I was wrong to say none are used. I worded my sentrence wrong and you can see that when you read my ENTIRE email. When a product is not certified organic, you have a chance of getting foods with bad chemicals and contaminants and some foods have been altered to produce those giant sizes we see in the stores... that are strictly prohibited with the USDA standards for growing organics.. It just gives me peace of mind...You can track pesticides in your house on your shoes and walk it all over your house and into your carpet. (Which also has all kinds of contaminants in them.  I take my shoes off at the door! The finish on hardwoods are contaminants...The new car leather smell IS a contaminant too!  Again, it's just a precaution and in my humble opinion and more healthy in a world so full of human made pollution...so I'm gonna do whatever I can and I believe in it!   Next time you take a run/walk down the road and pick up traces of what ever people are putting on their lawns/or what deicers on the roads/salts/car stuff/animal feces and drag it right into your own home where children/pets and DH lay on and play on the carpets...It makes you think twice about walking thru your house with shoes on. Same with organics! As far as nutrition...I meant that steel cut are better than the quick oat meal that we all all familiar with! :) I thought you wanted to know why Steel oats were better than regular oats!  LOL Silly me!  I remember when I first learned that organic didn't exactly mean "pesticide free"...I was shocked but, it's still a healthier version in my humble opinion... and the doctors at Childrens Hospital Cancer ward in Fairfax VA, think so too (I even told you that you can't wash some pesticides off food and that was why my friends cancer son could not eat ANY fresh veggies or fruits when his blood count was low for fear of PESTICIDES..yes even in organics).... I'd buy everything organic if I could first find it and second afford it.  But you are right...I did say "It just means there are no plant enhancing steriods or *pesticides used" in organics in my email to you and that was incorrect...I meant to say *bad  or no non-approved USDA chemicals.   Never claimed to be perfect...So sorry!  Anita<----Makes lots of mistakes and typos...
