I've been taking pain medication (Lortab) for pack problems.  I'm trying not to take so much of it, so I started substituting Tylenol.  The Lortab has 500 mg of Acetominophen, but the recommended dose of Tylenol is 1000 mg.  Is it ok to take 1000 mg.  And should I take it every 4 hours?  Thanks for any advice....

When I take extra strength Tylenol for headaches, I take 3 extra strength ones - 500mg each for a total of 1500mg every 4 hrs.  The Dr. told me it was ok before surgery.  It has been ok after for me. Laura

Take whatever amount you need at one time, but try to follow the upper limit of 4000mg in 24 hours.  Prolonged use at higher daily amounts can cause liver issues.

You can take 500mg tylenol and 1 lortab at the same time. The max acetaminophen is 1000mg/dose and 4000mg/24 hrs. Also watch out for acetaminophen in cold products.
