I love to eat cheese with like a hard boiled egg or 1 ounce of cold chicken, is this OK. I know that its a good protein but I also know its high fat, could I be gaining weight because of eating it. I eat about an ounce sometimes two a day. Debra

Debra, I eat cheese every day, at least an ounce, often more.  I add it to many of the foods I eat.  For lunch, I often have the packets of water-packed tuna or chicken mixed w/ just a little rf mayo & some shredded cheese.  For dinner, I sprinkle shredded cheese on almost everything--meatloaf, chicken, veggies, etc.  Sometimes for a snack, I have an ounce or so of cheese w/ a few soy chips.  If I have scrambled eggs & whole wheat toast for breakfast, I sprinkle shredded cheese into the eggs.  Well--you get the idea! I always use 2% (or low/reduced fat) cheese.  I never use fat-free cheese; it's just too "ack"! Believe me, cheese is the least of my worries right now! Jo

Always,
Jo

Debra, I eat so much cheese, rarely does a day go by that I don't have cheese......we even have a "cheesehead" club on the Texas Message board, lol. I sometimes use the 2% and occassionally regular cheese.....yes it has fat but I am ok with the amount of fat I usually eat in a day.......I don't think eating cheese will cause any concern unless you are eating megga doses a day.

I just gone done figuring out that cheese is probably the reason my trigs are high. My liver lab results came back normal except my trig were high - my PA asked if I was eating the big 5 - cheese, egg yolks, nuts, and two I don't remember - I didn't eat any of them except cheese - and I eat a lot of cheese - mostly 2% but when you look at the label - they are still mostly fat. So now I have to figure out a different way to handle my snacks - without cheese.   Diona

I usually eat cheese at some point every day. I like to sprinkle some 2% mild cheddar on my salad or melt it on top of a scrambled egg. I try to use the lower fat stuff, but if it's not available I'll use the regular. Like Jo I never do fat free~its just gross!!!!

I don't think there is a day I go without some form of cheese or dairy.  But because of it's high fat content, if you eat too much you might try a low fat version of the ones you eat. One or two ounces is Nuttin' honey! Personally, I eat my cheese in all it's fattening glory!  LOL  I hate low fat chese...:::pleuuuey:::: Fat doesn't concern me as much as carbs.  But I think you have to eat a whole lot of cheese and eggs to raise your cholesterol....if you do, cut back on the grams of fat...that's all!  You HAVE to have some fat to carry your vitamins from other foods and supplements through your body...Fat helps you absorb those vitamins....so don't cut too much out unless you think it's a problem. Then stick to veggie oils as they are the best for you... Anita

Good gracie.  I LOVE cheese.  I have difficulty with most dairy so, to get in my dairy I go with cheese and yogurt. (sugar free, low fat. Ususally greek or light and fit) I - as I see MANY others -also opt for the 2% bu not always. If I'm using it in a recipie and know I'm not going to be eating much of it I use whole fat cheese.   Cheese has been my little protien/calorie helper and snack buddy. On the days when I could eat next to nothing I could at least get in one of those lovely little single servings of cheese.

Every day.  Cheese is a DS staple food. Naturally, I eat the regular cheese, but even when I was doing LA Weight Loss 10 years ago, they only wanted us to eat the low-fat cheese, not the NONfat kind.  Apparently, fat-free cheese has a lot of sodium in it.  And it tastes yucky. Plus, even a proximal RNYer will malabsorb 38% of the fat that they consume (and that's at 2 years out, after our bodies have compensated for malabsorption), so it's ok to have some fat.  (You know us DSers - obsessed with fat!  We've got the studies to prove everything... )  Since your pouch is restricting your intake to such small quantities, I think you're safe with 1 or 2 ounces of cheese a day.  But I'm no nutritionist, nor do I play one on TV
