Anyone out there more than 5 years out -- struggling to re-lose weight?

I had surgery 8 years ago yesterday.  I went from 330 to 165 in one year, and maintained that for about a year before slowly gaining 5 to 10 pounds each year by grazing, drinking water with my meals, and never doing any water-loading.  I weigh about 260 now, and want to get back down to 180.  My pouch is still very tiny, so I'm revisiting the rules of the pouch, and trying to use the tool.  Anyone had a similar experience, who could give me some encouragement? I'd love to hear from you. Phyllis, Surgery Date:  2/9/08 preop 333, low post op 168, 260 regain, 240 now, 180 goal

I am almost two years post RNY. I haven't  experienced what has happened to you  but I know that you are not alone and you have come to the right place for help getting back on track and will  you get lots of support too.

YOU CAN GET BACK ON TRACK! You know what you need to do. Take one step at a time, stop drinking with your meals, that should help you stay full longer and help reduce the urge to graze inbetween meals. Be sure you eat your protien first. Get moving if you are not already doing so in some form of regular exercise and stay away from those simple carbohydrates that have sugar and white flour in them.

Wishing you all the best.

Hi Phyllis, You lost a lot of weight with your surgery!  I am also back here to deal with regain.  I had a proximal RNY in May 2002.  I regained from binging on a whole lot of chocolate (never was a dumper) and stopping exercise. Truly a winning formula .  .  . not. I don't really have any encouragement to give in terms of success, because I've only been back on track for less than two weeks.  I pretty much ignored the regain as it crept on the last three years or so.  At first it was slow, but it was really starting to pick up the pace and my weight climbed faster in the last six months or so (doesn't it always seem to come on faster the higher you go?).   Now I have sore knees all of a sudden, so I feel I must reverse the gain to try to take some weight off of them. So I am paddling along in the same boat with you.  :-)  Let's not forget to count that as exercise, okay? Good luck & keep posting, Suzy C Fighting 40 pounds of regain

Hi Phyllis, I am six years out and am just recently back in track too.  I got all the way down to 166 and slowly gained back to 200.  I have been checking here daily. logging all my food and excersize and I have lost 9 pounds.  I do the accountability thread and the move to loose thread and it really helps me.  I log all my food and activity at www.fitday .com and that really helps me.  I did the 5DPT and that helped alot too.  I just had to remember the rules of the pouch and use it.  I wish you luck and hope to see you here for support! Hi, I also have an anniversary date coming up soon, 2/19/01.  My lowest weight was 175 , my personal goal was 170.   Never quite made it, but mantained the weight within 10-15 lbs for 2-3 years.   Then, i stopped exercising, began grazing and slowly put on weight until i was 227.   Time for wake-up call!!!   i asked my husband to help me get back on track, and began walking again, re-joined this website and weigh****chers.     So far, i have lost 10 lbs.  I investigated the 5-day pouch test, but not sure i could do that. I am refocusing on the tools the surgery gave me and the rules of the pouch.  Don't drink with meals, cut back on carbonated beverages (yes diet also), began exercising again and the lbs. are going down.  Not as fast as it did after the surgery, but i'll take the 5-10 lbs a month.  Remember, it is a lifestyle change.  You have to keep focused and never forget what brought you to this board, to have this surgery. I have seen many people who have regained 50% or more of their weight loss and i am not going t be that person! Good luck, keep coming back and reading and learning --- I am! Barbara

I had my surgery in 2004.  In the past year and a half I've gone way off track.  I started back last Monday by going back to my allowed food list, cutting out regular soda and caffene.  Went to see the dietician and she updated my guidelines and changed up my vitamin regimen.  Stopped drinking with my meals and for 30 minutes afterward.  I'm supposed to be drinking 80 ounces a day but so far 78 is the closest I've gotten.  Been doing it a week now and have lost 8 pounds.

Only 3.5 years, but it's the same story, really... :-)  I had my RNY on 29 June 2004.  My lowest weight was 170, but that didn't last long... My personal goal was to get down to 169 and maintain that, but I never quite made it (not that I couldn't have, but I just wasn't the most disciplined).  I maintained between 177-182 for a while.   Then, I started doing all the wrong things, and one day my scale showed 207.   The one thing I swore I would never do... see the 200's again... and there I was, staring at the 200's again. So I figured I could either keep going the way I was going, or get my doodoo together.  I chose the latter ;-)  For me, keeping track of my calories (love fitday.com!) is what really helps!  It keeps me honest.  It is just nuts how those calories add up!   I've also finally started exercising (weak weak point for me!) and that's certainly going to help me reach my goal of finally being at 169 (overweight, not obese... yay!) by my 4 year surgiversary.  So... you already know how you gained the weight, so you know how to lose it... yes? ;-)  You can do it!  No doubt! :-) Hey Terri...!!!  Where are you? Come tell RNYMom your story! Angie

I am a stress eater and emotional eater and boredom eater....an eater in general. I drink coke and drink with my meals, stopped exercizing.  I did the 5 day pouvch test and actually lost 5.5 pounds in three days....but gained that back due to events I went to and eating out. Once again my fault. So I am starting it again.................... thanks you reading tammy

Why hate yourself? Just take control.   You can do it... trust yourself. Really! Believe me! Believe you!  Believe IN you! You know what to do, so just do it! If I were president, I would outlaw soda, btw... :-)
