This is an interesting post Tracy, thanks. My take on all this, is a personal one.  I am not someone who enjoys exercise and haven't become passionate about it.  But anything I do now is more than I was doing before.  I am someone who gets bored easily after an initial '5 minute wonder' passion, if you get what I mean. So what I'm trying to pick up is your comment about finding some kind of exercise that you enjoy and are benefitting from.  For me, tryiing to stick with a form of exercise just because some expert has said it is the best way will not work, as I will get bored and fed up and give it up after the initial period.  What I am trying to find is something that I genuinely enjoy as I know I am more likely to keep doing it and it become a lifestyle habit rather than 'something I HAVE to do'.

Hi Ruth! Yes! I agree completely!!! If you don't enjoy it, you will quit before you even get started! That's why the first year after surgery I mostly did Walk Away the Pounds~I enjoyed it and I felt good doing it. After I got into working out more, my interested expanded and now I enjoy many different types of workouts! As long as you move, that's what's most important to me!!!

Im with you Tracy, we need to do cardio to work our heart.I have been reading alot about less cardio and more strength training, to burn fat and lose weight. In this months prevention mag theres an article from Bob Green (Oprahs trainer) and he says to do 15 -20 min of cardio to get your heart rate up then do twice as much time lifting or using the band. I did this the last 2 days and I can really feel the differance.  Getting your heart rate up is what matters, you dont need to be on the treadmill that long, your heart rate will stay up just as long as if you did 30 -40 min, as long as you lift after or before. I need to break up my routine to start burning fat again, Im thinking about getting a recumnent bike or ellipical to do opposit days of the treadmill.  I will never give up my cardio all together. I didnt see the view yesterday ,wish I would have but had to work, Good luck everyone and keep walking, Debra

Hey Debra, I was thinking about getting a recumbent bike too. I don't know alot about them, but I thought it would be a nice alternative to have around, especially for the winter months. I was just checking out the ads today~do you know anything about them? what should I be looking  for? Thanks!

Tracy I dont know much about them either, I just came back from looking at them at Sears. My daughter called this morning and said she has one that she doesnt use (hangs clothes on it ), so said I could use hers to see if I like it. I think you just need to go look at them and try them in the store and see which kind is comfortable for you. And also what you want to spend.  I like the ellipical machines but they are a little more costly. I am looking for an alternate to the treadmill because its hard on my knees.  Today I got out my Billy Blanks tae bo tapes, I have the whole set and I did 45 min of the beginner one. I use to do them a couple years ago, it was fun, I forgot how hard it was, you have to have coordination. I need to mix up my workout to start losing again. I pretty much do the same thing everyday, treadmill and lift. I also bought a resistance band. Good luck, Debra
