I need help and advice! I'm freaking out!!!!!!!!! I am 15 months post op and was down to 129-130 and maintaining (I'm 5'2.5" tall) and feeling on top of the world...I started having some liver issues (fatty liver) and in 2 weeks I've gained 5 lbs! For the past few months, my appetite has increased tremendously and I find myself eating every 2 hours! I've drifted back to carbs but still make sure to eat protein and I add RTD protein shakes to my coffee. I am at the gym at least 5x a week, using the elliptical, bike, taking classes, etc. for at least 30-60 min. each time. I can't figure out what's up. At the very least I should be maintaining my weight loss but 5 lbs in 2 weeks is really scary! I spoke to my nutritionist who wants me to have protein shakes in between meals and cut back on starchy carbs. Any suggestions to get this 5 lbs off would be appreciated. I am still below goal but don't want to gain back even one more ounce! (PS-I'm 53 and post menopausal).

It is scary, but don't freak out. Do you weigh daily and track your weight?? If you track it, do you have natural fluxes at times? It is also scary once you can start to eat more~that was terrifying to me! Stick with protein~skip the bad carbs, but allow some good ones~you'll need those to fuel your workouts. It really sounds like you're on top of things to me! Those 5lbs could have been a combination of many factors and they may just disappear as quickly as they appeared. Listen to your body, feed it well, work it out and you'll be fine!!! Keep us posted on how things are going for you!!!

Your words are encouraging but nevertheless, I'm still frustrated as I sit here sipping on my coffee with protein. I had a HUGE shake for breakfast which I made with 1 C of carb countdown milk, frozen berries & bananas, ground flaxseed, protein powder and vanilla, it was so thick and yummy! Guess I'll have to bring the magic bullet out of hiding and use it at wor****il the weight drops off!

Hi Sheri: I find when I let myself have more carbs, I tend to bloat up, and gain.  Once I knock off the carbs, and stick to mainly protein and veggies, I will lose that extra weight within a day or two. I have been tracking on fitday, and it has helped me tremendously!  I just recently started counting calories, protein and carb grams (I used to just keep track of my protein intake).  My NUT wants me at 1200 to 1400 calories, 80 - 100 grams of protein, and to keep carbs within 20 grams of my protein intake.  It seems to be working.  I've been doing it for about 3 weeks, and I am down 6 lbs.   I am not going to beat myself up when I slip anymore - that is what I did before, and it obviously didn't work, because I topped out at 378 lbs.  As long as you nip it in the butt before it becomes a problem, you will be fine!!   Good luck!!

Sheri, 5 lbs although it is freaking you out is gonna be ok......you seem to be on top of the situation, even stating you know you've added extra carbs into your day........do you log your food intake?  Might try doing it for a while so you can really see what you are putting in your body if you aren't currently doing it. I stopped using fitday for approximately a year, got below goal needed to gain a few and let bad habits creep back into my day.....when I started using fitday again several weeks ago I realized how much I'd slacked; did the 5 day pouch test, felt good and so far I'm keeping myself on the straight and narrow most days.  In a little over 3 weeks 7 1/2 lbs, without much work just better choices.

I also put on 5 pounds back in November, which was about 15 months post-op for me. I went from 133 to 138 pounds almost overnight, and it stayed there for a couple of weeks. I started watching myself a little better and the weight came off, along with a few extra pounds. I fluctuate all the time, and it's very frustrating. Even if the 5 pounds you gained is "actual weight" and you've done something to cause it, that's not a huge gain and you've caught yourself before it's a real problem. It may be that you're just holding on to some fluid or something like that, and it'll disappear as quickly as it appeared.

Thanks, Wanda....you are looking great! From your mouth to God's ears! I sure hope this is just a temporary thing. My stomach is grumbling already! Day 1 of my eating changes has been a little bit of a challenge. I tend to do better when I'm not at work so hopefully this weekend will help. I have been drinking non stop all day!
