So I havent touched caffiene in a long time but have recently started drinking hot tea. Part of the time I do drink it with caffiene.  So why is it so bad for us.  I am unclear on the reason so of course I come to all you wonder OH friends to help me with this answer. Thanks Carla

I am not told that caffiene is bad for me.  I have asked many many times.  He said that caffiene isn't bad for me in anyway.  I drink two cups of coffee in the mornings and all my tea is decaf if I drink it at all.   I stopped drinking coffee for four days and I seen NO difference.  Just a headache without my caffiene.   Why are you being told that it's bad for you is my question? I was going to post something similiar to this myself. I'm wondering as well & trying to cut back on my coffee & finding it VERY difficult ! I feel like it may be slowing down my weight loss since I am doing everything I should be doing. The scale won't budge....but, I have to have my coffee....or do I :)

I believe, but don't know for sure, that caffiene is dehydrating and that is the reason many surgeons recommend staying away from it.  I drink a good bit of coffee, but it is decaf and I drink a lot of fluids.

As an early post-op my surgeon said no caffiene because it acts as a diuretic (sp?) and can cause dehydration.  Now I drink way to much of it, both caffiene and decaf......now I hope Michelle (vitalady) replies as it how caffiene affects us......I'm going now to Google caffiene and the affects on our bodies, vitamins, etc. I do recall, that to much caffiene leaches calcium out of the body.....has it stopped me NO, I have always loved coffee, still do and just have not been willing to give it up *sigh*.

My doctor said it's an appetite stimulant so I figure it has to be okay for those trying to keep their weight UP.  But then it does sometimes cause a hypoglycemic reaction in me. Not sure why only sometimes, not everytime.  I've been drinking coffee since I was 13 years old and had it hurt my stomach any, there would have been evidence of it before now. Plus they did an upper endoscopy on me and found nothing harmed.  I quit caffeine for a long time after surgery but found that I just wanted to sleep and didn't have the energy or the stamina to handle my days so I added it back in after a year. When I thought those caffinated drinks were causing me problems I cut them out for over a week and didn't see a difference...I like my coffee and have decaf at night so . I drink coffee and like it.

I've heard the coffee is an appetite stimulant and people state they feel hungry more with it.....the coffee affect on me is opposite, I lose my appetite, the caffiene doesn't keep me awake either no matter how late I drink it *shrug, not sure why but that's how it affects me*. I often time wonder if I drink so much coffee to keep the hunger away..

that's what I had heard too but it never kept me awake and never made me more hungry...But if that's what they think, i was willing to help my appetite some by drinking it and  - I like it and it keeps my energy levels higher during the day so I think it's a win/win for me at least.

I have noticed that I am not hungry when I drink tea.  I drink my tea fairly weak as well.. a 20oz cup with one tea bag and sometimes I will use the same tea bag for the next 20oz cup.  Unlike starbucks that puts two tea bags in their tea.. its way to strong for me. Dont know if that matters but I sure love drinking tea everyday now and I think I have more energy.  I use to be a slug in the morning.. not any more...I love that part.. Carla

There was a thought at one time that caffiene dehydrates you, but now they say it doesn't.  I do believe that for some people it can stimulate appitite, but I dont notice that.  I start everyday with a sugar free cherry mocha with 4 shots of espresso and I seem to do fine.  I also think that for some people, it may be a risk for ulcers and such (maybe that is coffee).  That is what I remember from 6 years ago.  I am not one of the coffee drinkers that has a cup full throughout the day,  but I do have to have mine first thing in the morning.  I hope my opinion helps.
