You need to track calories and make sure your carbs are about equal to or less than your protein.  I also just don't eat starchy carbs because they make me hungry.  Try to keep calories between 1000-1400 and exercise, not just cardio. You need muscle to burn calories, so do weight training too.  Good luck!

Lisa, Just as an FYI I'm 51 years old, 5'8'' tall and my weight is 147.  I lose on the average of 1 to 1.5 lbs every 5 to 6 weeks and have done this consistently the last 13 months.  My starting weight was 265, 250 the day of sugery.

I don't really track my carbs. I do not eat white breads, pasta, potatoes, etc b/c they just don't sit well with me~never have since surgery. I do eat fruits and veggies, occasionally some steel cut oats or whole grain bread w/turkey and I have to eat Fiber One cereal daily due to severe constipation problems. I will definitely gain weight if I get off track and let bad carbs in~Like cookies, candy, chips, pretzels, etc. I know this so I try not to eat those kinds of things most days. I do feel that I  need to keep the good carbs in my diet due to a stenuous workout schedule~My body truly needs them to fuel my workouts. I think there are so many factors that go into figuring out your particular needs as far as calories and carbs go. I can eat 2000 cal daily and maintain easily on that as long as I make the most of what I put into my mouth~high protein, lower carbs and fat, etc. I see some people that have to stay at the 1200cal range and I think "wow, I could never do it!" Even if I need to lose a few pounds (like right now~urgh) I drop back to 1500cal and can lose. I find that making the time to exercise 6x's per week is just as important in my losing weight as watching what goes into my mouth is.  Anyway, good luck and hope this helps!

I agree with most everything Tracy above has said.  As a guideline, my NUT and I just had a talk about this since I'd like to lose another 20 lbs. Her recommendations were protein 80-100 grams                                       net (carbs-fiber) carbs  45-60 (I agreed to try 60-80 first) She wasn't concerned about the calories; I do somewhere between 1600-1800 daily, but I exercise 5-6X week.   Hope this helps.

That's pretty much what I was using for guidelines...where you given any guidelines for fat grams? THANKS!
