I TRIED TO EDIT THIS TO CHANGE MY BAD TITLE SPELLING OF EXERCISE......it is early here...lol!!! Hi everyone, As I posted before, I am having some major issues with being stuck at the same weight.....in fact, i upped the calories on Wed, Thurs, and Friday by 300 and woke up today up 1.2 lbs. I just don't get it. So, I am wondering, for those of you pretty far out, how many calories do you eat a day? protein? carbs? and do you exercise, if so how much? I am going to try to post this over on the WLS grads board also...... Thanks for any help/answer, etc, you have for me!

Our bodies are so crazy! It drives me a little nuts sometimes! I eat around 1800-2000cal when trying to maintain and drop back to 1400-1500cal when trying to lose a few. I don't keep track of carbs or fats, but I don't eat high carbs or fats normally anyway. I do allow good carbs in from fruits and whole grains when maintaining, but if I'm trying to lose a few I cut back on those too. I work out 5-6x's per week~I do at least 30  min of cardio on those days (usually  more like 45-60min though), but I made a new years' commitment to do at least 30min 5x's per week. I also do some weight training 2-3x's per week.  I hope this info helps. I don't always adhere to my 2000cal daily and that's when I'll jump up a few pounds~I hate when I let that happen to myself, but sometimes I'm either out of control with eating or just have alot of social events going on and I don't pay as much attention as I should or lets face it, sometimes I just want to eat crap and I do and then I pay the price for that action~urgh! Anyway, like I said before, its alot of trial and error. just keep doing all the good things you're suppose to do and you'll start to lose again! Good Luck to You!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kimberly, I have always followed your posts (from back when we had our wls in '04, as well as your recent posts), and I must say, you are having a H*LL of a time!  I can certainly understand why you'd be frustrated (to say the least!) I am having issues of my own trying to lose what I've re-gained!   So I am not exactly an expert!  But I'm not giving up!  After the holidays this year, I decided I couldn't keep denying how far off-track I'd let myself get.  The mo. of Jan. was pretty good for me--not without some slip-ups, but overall I did well at getting back to basics (trying to eat more-or-less like I was at about 6-9 mo. post-op, when I was still losing nicely) AND getting back to my workouts 5-6 days/wk.  (Amazingly, even when I was gaining, I was still exercising, but gradually I had been going to the gym less frequently, sometimes only a couple times a week, and I stopped completely between T-giving and Christmas this year.) When I am exercising well, I do about 45 min. of strong cardio and 15-20 min. weight training, 5-6 days a week.  With that routine, I can eat 1800-2000 cals/day and maintain, even with an occasional day over that amount.  And with that amount of exercise, I can lose if I drop down to 1300-1500 cals., sometimes a little more.  I honestly don't know how many calories I was eating while I was re-gaining my weight--because it was caused both by additional calories (& crappy choices) and by less exercise (sometimes a lot less).   I don't  keep track of my protein count anymore (of course, I used to), but I really haven't ever had problems getting enough in (i.e., at least 60 g./day, usually well over that).  I never kept track of carbs.  During the time I was losing, I ate only healthy carbs, and when I was maintaining, I ate MOSTLY healthy carbs, and I never dumped, so I just didn't pay any attention to my count. I truly hope you start seeing some results.  It sounds like you're doing all the right things, so it just seems like your body just HAS to start cooperating!!  It's puzzling to me, and it has to be driving you crazy! Don't give up!!  I'm not happy with where I'm at either, but I'm still immeasurably happier than I was at 295 lbs., and I am determined to fight the good fight! Hugs, Jo

Always,
Jo

My nut says to stay around 1800 for me to maintain.  I know I have been up to 2400 at times.  Those are my out of control days!  Its just plain hard to keep everything in check every day.  So we do have allow ourselves to be normal and accept that we aren't aways going to lose or stay where we should but we can learn to balance out those out of control days with days of lower calories and exercise.  My protein - 60 grams or higher.  Carbs...too many I think....but I love fruit and veggies and some grain bread - don't eat much bread but when I do I usually have a gain.  Exercise laxed right now but starting to build up again. I have been sick.  Its hard but with help we can do it.  I applaud you for coming and asking.  I need to do more of this. Debbie

Life is too short to eat lousy food!

I don't have the answer for you...have you tried one of those online calorie calculators?  they aren't exact...but the mayoclinic has one that is pretty good...perhaps it can give you some idea of where you should be at to lose weight.  I know some further out post op RNYers have done weigh****chers (a bit modified) to help them get back on track...it seemed to work for the. Good luck to you. Scott
