How's your thyroid? Low thyroid can cause low blood pressure which can make you more sensitive and hypoglycemic. There is a great book called "Hypothyroidism Type 2" that will give you lots of information.  My thyroid was really not working and I was having the same problems - so bad that after I gave blood I got in an accident because I passed out due to low blood pressure. We upped my dose of Armour Thyroid and now my blood pressure is up to 110/70 again and I don't have the hypoglycemia so bad. Just a thought! Diona

I would refuse to have a gtt done.  Mayo Clinic, my endo and my wl doc all say it is worthless and dangerous for a RNY patient to have it done.  There are other ways.

I had what was called a mixed meal test.  I had to eat something that would make me drop.  In my case it was Wendy's chili.  Then I had to go to the hospital and have my glucose, insulin, pro-insulin and anti bodies drawn.  That told Mayo all they needed to know.

You said that your fasting was low.  That could mean an insulinoma.  Generally with post RNY hypoglycemia, your fasting should be normal.  If you have an insulinoma, that will cause the fasting to be low.  Are you seeing an endocrinologist or just your PCP?

Also, to the person who said they got dizzy from blood loss from a GTT, that would be incorrect if your hemoglobin is normal.  A blood draw is usually only 5cc which is a teaspoon.  The normal person has at least 8 pints of blood.  That would have to be a huge blood drawn to be dizzy and weak from it.  Most people can lose 2 pints without any ill effects.  You were dizzy and weak from either low blood sugar or dumping.

I am not a doctor but was a lab tech for 20 years and have suffered from hypoglycemia for the last 2 years.  Mine was diagnosed as nesidioblastosis at Mayo Clinic.  I had 60% of my pancreas removed in order to control it.  It is better but I still drop and have to be very careful what I eat.
