5 day pouch test
i had my surgery in 2007 and i forget what is the parameters for carb and sugars, is it less than 10 on both? i remember them telling me and i originally was real good a label reading then got lazy and here i was eating everything and anything except pasta, without getting sick. now up 20lbs and looking back I know exactly why now....those bad carbs and sugars and GRAZING!!!
After a morning full of eating crap food that was NOT on my plan for the day I decided that I had had enough.. By one thirty in the afternoon I felt terrible physically and emotionally because of all the unhealthy food I had shovelled into my body. I decided NO MORE. I decided to just do clear liquids the rest of the day to give my body a break from the abuse I had putting in through. By nine pm on Thursday, I hopped onto the 5daypouchtest website and put the plan into action.
I successfully made it through the first night with only clear liquids: low sodium french onion soup (onions strained out of it), water, and caffeine free tea.
First full day (day 1) Friday: Clear liquids again. tea, low sodium chicken boullion, low sodium french onion soup, water with crystal light, sf jell-o... finally at about 6 pm I had a protein shake because I had a headache. I had planned on only clear liquids, but once the headache set in I knew that I had to get some protein in. I was really hungry this night. I ate some sf jello and went to bed early so I wouldnt be tempted to break the test.
(Day 2) Saturday: coffee (with two tbsp ff half & half), low sodium french onion soup (onions strained out of it), water, I am hungry again tonight. I am definately a night time eater. All day I was fine.... I had 1/2 cup of sf jello, (2) sf popcycles. I'm heading to bed so I dont eat anything else.
(Day 3) Sunday: tomorrow I am looking forward to having an egg at breakfast. Although I am nervous about eating. It is almost easier to only be drinking right now. There is no question that I am not overdoing it. Eh. I will deal with tomorrow when tomorrow comes. I know that I can do this.
I have lost 4 lbs so far. Yes, I want to get reconnected to my pouch and be able to recognize that feeling of fullness again, but I would also love to lose a little bit of the extra 18 lbs that I have put back on.
This pouch test thing can only be temp. for me. I am in the middle of fertility treatment.... on a break right now... dieting is not condusive to pregnancy. So,... this may be my first and only time doing it at least for a long time. At least I hope. If I am able to get pregnant soon, this will have reminded me how to use my pouch and eat small healthy portions and break that horrible (simple)carb cycle that I was on.
Wishing everyone else out there luck.... and strength...because really luck has nothing to do with it. Being ready and strong enough to tough it out means everything.

Hi all! I am starting the 5DPT Monday to lose the 20 I've gained and get back on track for the 40 I have left to lose. I've got my broth and protein and sassy water (lemon, cucumber, mint infused water) all ready. I also add egg drop soup to my first two days. I use one egg white and strain it into my soup. It cooks in thin ribbons, easy to digest and adds protein. I don't know if it's "legal" per se but it's not thicker than some of the cream soups that are legal so I go with it.
Anyway, if anyone is starting over too, I'd love to do it along with someone. Last time I felt so good at the end of day 2 that I stayed on liquids for 2 more days before adding soft proteins in. Just the extra energy from getting rid of the carbs was so nice!
I'll check back on Monday!
I wondered what type of surgery you had? RNY or Lapband or Sleeve. That might make a difference. I had a RNY 7 1/2 years ago and just heard about the pouch test in our support group meeting last night. I plan on going on it this next week. I don't get hungry, even this far out. I think I will do okay on it because sometimes I actually forget to eat. That's why I wondered what type of bariatric surgery you had. This is my first time in a long time of going on this site, however, now that I lead a support group, I plan to be on here more often. Good luck everyone!
