Rude Awakening this weekend
Hi everyone, I'm 4 yrs post-op and i just wanted to let you guys know what happened to me this weekend. My company paid for a trip to Las Vegas this weekend (all paid for). All i had to do was attend this "manditory" dinner. I started drinking wine and before i knew it, i almost passed out.
My DH was smart enough to get me back to my hotel. Turns out , on the way there i fell twice and twisted my ankel.
I am so embarrased...and i just wanted to ask you guys. How do you measure how much you can drink? I thought i had it down packed. Thanks!
Anything after the first FULL glass could be bad or not so bad, but I try to stop at one. 8oz gets a buzz feeling going but it also makes it easier to drink more without realizing how much you are drinking. It's not always the same amount that puts me over but I just know what I CAN have and try not to test it.
I didn't drink alcohol after my surgery til I was about 1 1/2 yrs. post-op--I couldn't believe what a glass of wine did to me!
I don't indulge very often, but when I do, I just know to really pace myself. It's very easy for me to go from feeling "mellow" to lousy if I'm not careful. And I've noticed that I get high faster on wine than on hard stuff (I'm presuming b/c of the high sugar content of the wines I drink).

Always,

OMG!!! I feel your pain... I know this is embarrasing... B4 my surgery I had really bad back pain and when hubby and I would go out, I used to be able to drink tequilla shots with out no problem (it would really make my back feel better...lol... at least that was an excuse).. anyways about 1 yr out we went out and I thought I'd experiment a little to see what I could drink and wooohooo I got trashed and I only had one drink it was vodka and grapefruit juice, my hubby got a big kick out of it.... He really liked it cause I am a cheaper date now. Anyways I am almost 7years out and I have had a couple wild nites and didn't drink much with them, but I typically have a glass of white zin with dinner when we go out someplace nice to eat and if we are out and about I will have a glass of white zin with ice and for the rest of the nite I will stick with water or coffee, and I still have a good time (not brave enough to try the tequilla, besides the back pain is long gone!!!)

My hubby (whom I USED to be able to drink under the table) calls this new side effect "ladies night at wal-greens" since I can get silly over over the counter stuff. YUP Pace thyself, hydrate sip very slowly. My wole (Irish) family finds it utterly ilarious tat the few times I've tried drinking even in moderation arount them they can tell when I'm getting buzzed. It's sad, but kinda fun if you take the drinking only in moderration and only drink around people you trust!

I rarely drink--never have, so I'm not a good judge. But on those very rare occasions when I do imbibe, it is never in public. The risk of embarrassment is just too high.
But, it isn't just alcohol that can make me almost pass out. While I can, unfortunately, tolerate a fair amount of sugar now, sometimes it backfires on me. On vacation recently I had the equivalent of about 1/3 cup cherry cobbler and ice cream-- and had one of the worst dumping episodes of my life. I could barely make it to the bedroom (we were staying at a vacation home), and when DH came to check on me he had to help me to the bathroom. Four hours of that! So while everyone else went out the pool, I laid in bed moaning (and cursing myself!).
Ah, some of the joys of WLS!
