jinx myself

At 2:00am Saturday night I woke up SCREAMING in pain; serious abdominal pain – in 3 years I’ve never experienced that before. Ambulance came & took me to the Hospital .

The did extensive blood work, EKG and an Ultra sound. They found nothing, my kidneys, gallbladder & liver are fine. They are assuming it was acid reflux & serious gas (which was slight embarrassing). The doctor prescribed heavy Pepcid (Famotidine). Today my stomach feels tight, but nothing like the pain I had before.  I am going to call my doctor who did my bypass, see if I can get his opinion. The ER doctor said sometimes with this surgery leakage pops up, but after 3 years it’s unlikely; and I would have experienced fever, vomiting, etc. Has anyone experienced this & what happened?

Hmmmm I had this back in October.  It was right between my breasts in the middle and then down about 1 1/2 inches.  If that makes any sense.  After putting up with the pain for a few hours, which only got worse my husband took me to our local urgent care, which is over 30 minutes away.  They said I had acute pancreatitis (sp?).  They loaded me up with pain medication and called an ambulance to take me to the hospital (1 1/2 hours away).  They called in an endo specialist and he agreed on the diagnosis, although I don't drink .  They did an endoscopy (he is familiar with RNY tubes) so he felt it safe.  He couldn't get to were he wanted, so they did 5 slits in my stomach 2 days later and found small gall stones in my bile duct.  I had my gallbladder removed 4 years ago.  He felt they were just sitting there waiting for something like this to happen.  I was in the hospital 5 days before they did the incision surgery.  The day before they did it I had a horrible attack.  If I would have had something to slip my wrists I would have.  I couldn't get any help from the nurses.  My husband was there and we were going crazy.  I prayed that Mr. Kodama (my endo) would come in, but it was 9:30 at night and low and behold here he came.  He ordered pain medication immediately and it took the pain away.  I had the surgery the next day and haven 't had any problems since.  Sorry this message took so long, but I wanted you to understand the whole story (I'm kinda like that)...LOL  I was in the hospital a total of 9 days.  My liver started failing and they were talking transplant.  YIKES!  Then I was jaundice.  They wouldn't release me until my liver levels returned to normal.  I have to have them checked every few months.  If your pain was in the same proximity as mine, please have your doctor check this avenue.  I wish you the best.  I had surgery 8/06....... Hugs, *Carol* in California

Hi Carol, Thank you for your response - holy cow you went through a lot in such a short time. I did speak to an assistant at my bypass doctor's office. The fact that my ultrasound came back good & so did my blood work that is a good sign. I'm seeing him next week, but it looks like it might be an ulcer. Again, I had no issues for 2 years - its like my warentee is up. :) ~Amy

Sorry to hear this, hope all works out to being nothing serious.  Just a thought about possible kinked bowel, it seems so common now days for post-ops further out....how are your bowl movements, etc......please be sure to discuss this with your surgeon when you see him.
