Hi everyone - I was wondering how often you guys enjoy protein bars?  I eat about one a day, but I am beginning to think it is too much, and that maybe I should have on every other day.  Any thoughts?

I eat one or two a day.  To tell the truth I am not crazy about the taste.  I do not eat a lot of other protein.  I drink lots of protein drinks.  It has been almost three years since RNY. My hair is still dry, brittle and thin even with a lot of protein.  I am facing PS revision this week, so I am trying to get in even more protein.  I sometimes wonder if I might damage my liver and kidneys with so much protein.   Like everybody else I am trying to do GOOD.  I get my blood tested every six months, if I have problems, I should know before things get out of hand.  Patricia

I probably eat one most days.  I have to be careful because I really love the  peanut butter South Beach High Protein Cereal Bars (not the meal replacement bars) and could easily eat them like I used to eat candy bars.   I try to force myself to eat them s-l-o-w-l-y.    My very favorites are the Power Crunch bars (I used to get them on-line, as they don't sell them in any stores in my area).  I haven't bought any for a long time, though, because  I can't leave them alone.   I love all the flavors.   I don't see any problem w/ having one every day as long as you're OK on overall calories.

Always,
Jo

I only use them in a pinch, like when I'm running errands and don't have time to eat good food, and when I'm traveling.  I get 120-150 grams of protein per day from food sources, and generally don't need to supplement with protein bars.   Are you using the protein bars to hit your daily protein goals?  Do you not tolerate a lot of foods that are good sources of protein?  I'd rather have a cup of cottage cheese with some fruit or an apple with some peanut butter or a venti non-fat latte than a protein bar any day.  But it's also important to hit your protein goals.  Evaluate why you are using protein bars, then decide if they are right for you!!! Good luck on your continuing journey -  Kellie

Hello, I was wondering how  you get so much protein in every day. I dont drink protein drinks, I eat a protein bar once a day, but they are so high in sugar. What should I do? I do eat chicken alot, but it still doesnt add up to that much, ( I dont think). Can you help? Thanks

I eat them several times per week~I enjoy them as my "snack or treat" and just count them into my daily total. I need something sweet once a day so I figure that's better than having a snickers, LOL!

what are the stats? how big a bar with how much protein, how many sugars?

I do sometimes 3 per day, broken in half, 6 meals. But then they ARE my meals, not in addition to. If I'm stuck in an all carb situation, I'd rather have a bar. I use two:
Supreme (like $100,00 Bar) is a big bar, so easily makes 2 meals and the whole bar = 30g protein, 6g carbs, about 300 cal

Rockin Roll is a PayDay, smaller, so 20g protein 2g carbs, around 200 cal.

But remember, these are INSTEAD of a meal or snack, not in addition to

Hi, I try to keep them at least 15 grams of protein, and more than 17 grams of sugar

I HOPE you meant "no" more than 17g?

Still, that's more than I get in a day. And for me to maintain my wt, I need to keep sugar g in the single digits.

I also make sure the protein is way, way more than sugar g on anything.

I only have to THINK about sugar to gain.
