I am 4 years post op and have gained about 30 lbs back.  I wanted to find out if anyone has joined weigh****chers to help them get back on track.

Hi there, throughout the years I have heard mixed things about going to Weigh****cher post surgery.  Some members have had great success and some find it very difficult because of the food choices vs. what we can eat.   I can't speak personally since I have not joined Weigh****chers as a post-op (but have thought about it just to help maintain). Do you have access to your nutritionist or dietician?  Since they know a post-op's special needs, I think this would be a great route to follow.   I have had to call mine a few times during my journey, she helped tremendously.   I am sorry I couldn't offer more help, but I am wishing you the best of luck!! :)  ~Shannon

I haven't looked into WW as a post-op, but before I had my RNY it never was effective for me. I would lose a few pounds and then start to pile them back on, all the while staying within my points. I'll be curious to see your responses, because I've wondered how it would work in the event of regain.

I joined recently to take about 15-20 pounds back off.  It is working wonderfully for me.  Basically, I can eat or avoid any foods that I want.  I just have to limit my quantities in order to stay within my "points" for the day.  I was having trouble grazing all day and night, so knowing I am out of points for the day and have to stop eating has worked well for me.  Good luck! (I have no idea what my signature says... right now I am 151 and hoping to get back down around 138)

Hey Brandi, I totally feel your pain. I'm three years out and up 28 pounds from my lowest weight of 154. Weigh****chers actually started coming to my work. I'm amazed at what a success its been. I think their must be a room full of 20+ people its really great to see all the people taking the initiative to get their health under control. I'm not happy about the 28 pounds but I think I've done what I need to do to try and get the gain under control. I'm kinda confused about the whole point thing. I mean do we have to eat less points now. According to their system I should be at 24 points a day. I asked the leader what she thought about it. I think we've both decided to just try it and see, If I gain weight I may have to adjust the number of points. I love the fact that I've had this surgery, my life has totally changed. I just wish that my doctors office was focused on the after care as much as getting new patience. So here I sit at 182, hopefully not for long!! I'd like to at least get to my lowest weight again 154 I can't wait until it starts getting a bit warmer outside, currently we're sitting at 3 deg with a windchill of -6 Let me know how your doing!! Yes,  I have recently joined WW to help me lose the approximately 25 pounds I put on by grazing over the years. It is helping me to focus on eating only during meals and planned snacks, helping me relearn portion control and what a "normal" day of eating looks like,  helping me to focus on the healthier foods out there, etc. It is much easier to follow the plan post-op than it ever was pre-op. Believe it or not, by following a non-grazing eating plan, it is sometimes difficult for me to get in all my necessary points...my surgically altered tummy is still quite small and can only hold so much! I was beginning to think it had "stretched out"!  BTW: I have lost 12 of the 25 pounds so far, in about 3 months.....including through the holidays.

I'm joining weigh****chers on Wednesday, I'll tell you how I do. I will be two years out on May 18th!  I have about 15 pounds to get to my goal (it vascillates between 10-15 lbs so i'll say 15 to be comfy).  I don't need the training on how to eat, I need the weekly accountabilty and people to applaud me. I am about 2 1/2 years post op (I think....I lose track of time).  In the last 6 months or so I packed on 20 lbs and was just sick over it.  Of course I had gotten rid of all my fat clothes so I didn't have anything to 'fall back on' when I gained the weight.  My sister has not had surgery but has been going to weigh****chers and has lost almost 75 pounds so far.  My mom and my sister in law are also going.  I decided that after the Christmas/NewYears holidays I was going to join with them at WW in order to get myself back in a healthy eating routine.  Since I have three other folks that are going it helps to share recipes and have someone there at the meetings with you.  I have been on the program for three weeks and as of my weigh in last night I have already lost a little over 10 lbs.  I really like it because, like the surgery, WW is a lifestyle change...but there is a manual to go with this one and boundaries in black and white.  It's helping.  One thing that's weird though...I don't want anyone at the meeting (other than my family) to know I've had the surgery.  I don't want to see the looks on their faces and know the whispers about how I'm 'cheating' because I had the surgery and tried to take the 'easy' way out.  I know that I am having to work just as hard to lose and ultimately maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle as they are.  I also know that many folks are not very educated when it comes to weight loss surgery so I would just rather not bring up the issue than have to feel like I'm defending myself or feel guilty for every success I have.   Just thought I'd share my thoughts.  I applaud all of us that are using whatever tools necessary to be healthy...whether it be surgery or WW or stapleing our mouths shut (kidding about the last one).   Have a wonderful day! RaeAnn not sure what my signature says either but i started at 250 and got down to 152 and then went back up to 174 and am now down to 164.
