Memory Problems

I was reading Beth's blog a little while ago and she mentioned she had memory problems.  I don't remember this topic being discussed before. I'm have an issue with names.  I know exactly who or what I'm talking about, but the name just won't come to me.  It's happening so often and beginning to get really embarassing.  I'm particularly bothered at work, effective communication is essential.  Other than names, I feel like my brain still processes as normal. So is it age?  I'm 55.  Or is it WLS?  Sometimes it's hard to figure out which! Michele

Hi, Michele-- I think it's a little of both!  (Age & wls!) I found myself having memory problems and increased my B12 to twice weekly, as well as started taking a liquid B-complex every day. (I checked online for symptoms of memory loss and B1 and B12 both showed that as a symptom.)    I checked with a person who is familiar with vitamins and they said that the B-complex is processed in a different place in our intestines so it doesn't  have to be sublingual as the B12 must be. I think it has helped. I don't think folks talk about it much, because it is such a sneaky thing, and who likes to admit that their memory isn't as good as it was?! Good luck!

When is the last time you had extensive lab work done?  Memory issues can be attributable to various vitamin deficiencies. Good luck, Kathy

I have since picked up my vitimens, however YES absolutly I've had memory problems. One instance stands out amoung others.  My husband and I were discussing local things we could do around here. I had suggested we go to the observitory teliscope.  Well, apparently we'd ben there before my surgery. I absoluly could NOT remember doing this!!!  I sill can't. My hubby has described this place in detail and insists we went. Nope, for me it never happned. LOL!  I've had other small memory gaps, and these HAVE improved with uping my vitimins (1 a day, B vits and some added diatary protien and calcium.) but forgetting was pretty darn scary. It's not alztimers for me, I'm still young (ish!)

OMG, I thought I was the only one having memory problems.  I am 54 yrs. old and I was worried about alzheimers.  So you guys think if we increase our Thiamin it will go away?  I also have protein issues...and eating to many sweets and carbs....I am worried....I need to get back on the program..how is the best way to do it? both B1 and B12 can be "over the top" of high end. B12 levels are 200-900, roughly. New studes show 800 as a bottom. Babies are born at 2000, go BACK to that.

B1 is safe to be at high end.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
