Partial or Full Bowel Obstruction? Internal hernia?

I just tore this off at the top of my head in response to another post/poster.  I thought I'd included it up here since the topic doesn't seem to come up enough.  I have considerable information on my profile.  My original pain began in October/November 2005 after I had moved from New Orleans to Houston because of Hurricane Katrina.  This will give any of you who are interested in my complications a starting point. I'm struggling now with chronic pain and new symptoms.  Take care of yourselves because no one else knows your body the way that YOU do! With love............................... Please read my profile.  I have had several obstructions.  Only ONE of them put me in the "you'll know it's an obstruction because you'll be in so much pain."   That was where I fully kinked over and closed shut.  It was actually a complication to another obstruction that has been fixed surgically. For my first obstruction, I walked around in pain for 7+ months having every test under the sun so what you've been told is NOT true.  My problem was that I had moved away from my bariatric surgeon and no one believed me here and/or knew what to do with me.  I did see ONE bariatric surgeon b/c my original WLS attended college with him and rang him up with a personal request.  He told me that NOTHING was wrong with me, he would NOT address my pain, it was all in my head, and to "get over myself."   That doctor is now considered "FAMOUS" just because he's on some TELEVISION SHOW.   SCARY!!!!!!    Yeah, OK.    Anyway, his treatment towards me, threw my surgeon into orbit!  He scheduled exploratory surgery without even an office visit (though I had been sending him all my test results, blood work, and talked with him).  I had an internal hernia that was incarcerated in Peterson's space (this is considered a partial obstruction) and a huge mass of adhesions.   I've had 5 in 13 months and something like 11 in 2.5 years.  I've truly lost count. Please know that you can have an obstruction and still go to the bathroom everyday and while the pain had, at time, become so intense that I sought help and ER care, these things are not always demonstrative on XRays, CT Scan and EVEN MRIs.   I don't want to scare you or anyone else but it seems like this doesn't get enough attention and people are given the wrong information.  I'm so sorry and I hope all works well with you!

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.

I agree that people don't know enough about these complications.  I had 2 internal hernias, a full bowel obstruction, and a huge mass of adhesions - and I was only 2 weeks out from RNY.  We have no idea why I had such severe adhesions so soon.  Now, 5 months later, I am starting to have mild trouble (2 episodes of pain that may or may not be explainable by gas and  constipation).  I am somewhat concerned that I will end up back on the surgeon's table soon.

Thanks for posting this for me.

This truly makes me angry because my pain started about 6 months out.  My surgery was at Vanderbilt University in Nashville so I have my surgeon, but also 'new resident' surgeons under my surgeon that see me from time to time.  When I first went in re: the pain, the resident said we should probably do exploratory surgery.  My general surgeon came in a few minutes later saying this was completely unneccessary and that an ultrasound would be just fine.  I have had three so far and they never show anything bad.

I guess I should keep a log of the pain issues and be more assertive at the surgeon's office.  I am moving to a new home this summer (where yet we don't know as we wait for a placement) but I hope that I can find an agreeable bariatric surgeon when the time comes.

Thanks

Rachael

Hello, I am thankful I ran across this post I have been having pain that feels like the most intense gas after almost every meal for the last 2 weeks I have felt as if I wanted to die because the pain was so bad.  I had an endoscopy done today and nothing was found.  Thankfully, while waiting to see my surgeon the other another post-op told me it sounded like an internal hernia.  After mentioning this to my surgeon he has me set up to have exploratory surgery on next Friday.  I hope I can make it until then..........
