Hey Everyone I was going to my bar bell strength class this morning and then my boxing class tonight, but my arms, shoulders and back are kinda sore so I am resting this am and going to my boxing class tonight. By the way...didn't you notice the big red bold font?  I decided on RED gloves.  I was going to get pink as I am a girly girl, but there was something about the RED ones that fit the boxing me I want to talk today about having fun.  If you have been doing this for awhile, are you in a rut?  Do you find you just go through the motions and the passion and fire for what you are doing is gone?  If you are pre-op and or newbie, do you find you do it just because you know you have to and you know deep down this ain't going to last The key is to keep trying new things until you find that one or two things that really push your buttons.  I can't explain it but when I was working out with my trainer to get my body fat down as low as possible for PS. I just LOVED the way I felt while lifting weights.  I just loved feeling strong.  Maybe it had something to do with me being a fat person I just felt my whole life like a loser and a weak person for not being able to control my eating.  I was trying any and all classes at they gym and when I took my first kick box jam class I loved the way I felt when I was throwing punches and kicks.  Again, if I had not tried that class I would have never found out I loved boxing. So if you are pre-op and or a newbie, walking and or swimming is  your best bet until the weight starts coming off.  Then get adventurous and try different things.  I am almost 4 years out and just now getting into boxing. If you are a vet like me, and getting bored, get DVD's, take classes, try different things and find that fire and passion in your workout again.  This is for the rest of your life and we have to live it with the passion that we missed in our lives before So My Friends, Did You Move To Lose and or Maintain Today?  Come on and posts, I double dog dare ya!!! Stay Sexy, Sassy and Strong Take care, Kathy

Hey, Miss Red Gloves! I feel bad saying this, because I know you are the QUEEN of variety in your workouts and are always so enthusiastic and innovative about exercising, but . . . no, I'm not lovin' it. I do better when the weather gets nicer and I get more variety--like just going out walking some days for an hr. or so, cutting the grass, riding bikes.  But in the winter, it's just to the gym.  Last fall, I did start taking a circuit class 3 days/wk, as well as a body sculpting class 1 day/wk, at my gym; however, the instructor just left to go to a different gym, so right now, I'm not taking any classes (the remaining instructor has classes at terrible times for me).   I'm just doing my regular combo of cardio and weight training right now.  I really don't love it.  I really didn't love the classes, either.  Every single day, I have to talk myself into it and remind myself of how good I'll feel after I've gone.  I am trying to vary my workout routine, but honestly, I just don't think I'll ever be a gung-ho exerciser.  And that's OK--I know I just have to do it anyway. Sorry to be such a downer!  Yes, I moved to lose today at the gym!  I am so grateful to be ABLE to workout--I do try to focus on that thought.  If you'd told me years ago that I would be consistently working out (with only a couple relatively short lapses) for the past 3 1/2 yrs., I'd have thought you were stark-raving mad!  Back then, my only exercise was walking the aisles of the grocery store. J.

Always,
Jo

You made me laugh!   I think my attention span as far as staying motivated at various activities/sports is about like that of a gnat! I did actually try yoga at our local recreation center last summer.  I just retired (school guidance counselor) in May, and several friends were urging me to join them on Wed. mornings--and then they go for coffee.  Well, I went for most of the summer . . . honestly really TRIED to like it! . . . but instead of finding it invigorating or calming or whatever other adjectives people use, I found it difficult & frustrating, and I felt stressed through most of the class!  I finally decided I'd just as soon be at the gym burning more calories!    If I had to pick one physical thing I do enjoy, it's swimming.  Unfortunately, my gym does not have a pool.  We do have 1 gym in town w/ an indoor pool, but honestly, I'm just not wanting to pay extra to go there in addition to my gym where I have a membership.  And I would NOT be excited about wearing a swim suit in front of people here in our small town.  At the gym, in cropped workout pants & a t-shirt, I'm OK, but my gross saggy legs & horrible bat-wings make me very self-conscious. I am really a slug by nature; my good friends & family are just incredulous that I actually work out as much as I do!   Boxing?  Ummm . . . no! I'll settle for reading about other people's adventuresome athletic feats--while I plod along on the good ol' elliptical machine! Jo

Always,
Jo
