Did You Move To Lose Today? Let's Talk Form!
Hey Everyone
I hope your weekend was as good as mine. I was headed for the gym and my son called and said he was going to work on form and would like to join him. I said yes, as I was sure my form was pretty good
Let's talk form.... Now if you are a pre-op and or newbie and getting ready to click out thinking this does not apply to you,.... DON'T! It does
What is form?
Form is the way you hold your body when performing a task. Let's talk walking, which most of us starts out with. If you have good form then you will get the max out of what you are doing. When walking, hold your head straight, shoulders back, I mean really back. We have carried around so much extra weight our entire lives that we hunch over by nature. We may have some curvature of the spine we have to correct. I am finding this is a big issue for me when doing my exercises. Swing your arms, take long steps and make sure you are walking straight. Yep, I said straight. Look at your toes, are they pointing out when you land or are they pointing in or out? Again, we adopt moves to compensate for the extra weight.
If you are lifting weights then please get a trainer, or ask the gym you are at to show you how to correctly use equipment. Most will do so without charge. Ask for a free consult with a trainer.
I thought i knew form when doing things like squats. I was working with my son and doing so without a bar on my shoulder. By the time I was done doing the squat correctly I thought I was going to die. THAT is why it's so important to get the form right. YOU WILL GET THE MAX OUT OF IT IF YOU DO.
Now this is not something you will learn over night
. Practice, practice, practice...but in the long run, you will look better, prevent injury and get the biggest bang for your buck as they say
So my friends, Did You Move To Lose and or Maintain Today? Come and in and let's get this week going
I checked out the LA Boxing facility here this weekend and I will be taking a free class tomorrow morning. Let ya know if I join and how it goes!!!
Take care,
Kathy

Hi Kathy! Yep, form is very important. I am tall (5'9") and I really need to work on my posture~I think like you said b/c of carrying around all that weight and also sometimes I don't want to appear as tall as I am.
Anyway, I did 3 miles WATP today. Holding off on the weights until tomorrow!

Hi Tracy,
I think I am standing up, but I have had many people tell me to stop hunching over. When we are trying to do some shoulder stuff, I am so bad I can't even do then. Oh well, baby steps my friend, baby steps.
Great job on the WATP
Take care,
Kathy

Kathy, its funny you mentioned the shoulder work. Last week Jim had me doing a shoulder exercise and he's like "yeah, but you need to keep your back straight". I told him that was as "straight" as I could get it due to my bad posture. I'm glad to hear its something we can work on though b/c I don't want to be 70 and hunched over!!!!!!
I finally got my home gym together and started my exercise routine. I was exercising 5 days a week and doing activities on the weekend but due to some leg issues I was stopped from doing any type of exercise. I have finally been cleared so I started exercising again.. You can guess I am sore, sore, sore, after this workout
Here was my plan for the day. remember I do supersets.
I also did 1 and half of cardio. I am taking a self defense type class that is cardio oriented with my other half who is a 5th degree black belt. They finally got me to try it.. Opp*****h my daughter (3rd degree) in the mouth..
Estimated calories burned 700. Total in 1000. need to up those if I am gonna work that hard.
See you all tomorrow

Well, after reading cwalden's post, I feel like a real slouch--LOL!!
After 2 days of not exercising over the wkend (had company), my dh & I made it to the gym last evening, and I also went this afternoon. Last night, I was really feeling sluggish and just plain didn't want to be there, so I didn't work my hardest. Did 45 min. cardio, but not as intensely as usual. This afternoon, I felt better. Did a good 50 min. cardio and 10 min. upper body weights.
I agree, Kathy, about "form"! I'm not saying mine is excellent, by any means, but I often see women working out with TERRIBLE form. I figure if I'm gonna exercise, I sure as heck want to be getting the right benefits from it!
So much for "spring" in IL--
My teeth were chattering today!

Always,
Jo
You are right, it's so cold here. I want to know how you get your DH to go to the gym with you. Mine wouldn't set foot in one
Sorry you were not feeling so well. I really do think this time of year gets us down. But don't you find once you workout you really do feel better? I do...
It was great to see you, keep up the awesome job you are doing.
Take care,
Kathy
