When does it stop?
Mary, I had lost the majority of my weight (98 pounds) at the 6 month mark but continued to lose about 40 pounds more over the next year. At 18 months out I had pretty much stopped but I wasn't one of those that really had a goal weight in mind, I just let my body do its thing. Hope this helps some.
Shel
Mary - I had surgery on Sept 8, 2004 and have pretty much been the same weight since June in 2005. If I get sick or something and don't eat, I can drop 5 pounds in 4-5 days, but I usually work really hard to put that back on. I saw a bit of a slow down in weight loss and the scale going up a few times instead of down, when I got into the gym religiously and started lifting regularly. This is your body producing the muscle, so don't worry. Just keep focusing on how much better you feel! I hit my goal and have maintined it for almost 3 years now. Keep it up you are doing fabulous!!! C.C.
I lost 105 pounds in six months, another 50+ the next six months, and another 25 or so in the last six months. I haven't lost anything in the last few weeks and hope I'm done losing weight because I look like a fence post. I went from a very tight and obscene size 28 to a loose size 2 or 4. Sometimes I can't find anything small enough to buy. I fall into the commode when I'm on it. Of all the problems I thought I'd face in my lifetime, I never expected this. I expect a little rebound (hope it's a little one anyway), and I don't really diet. I'm not sure why some of us lose more than we meant to, while others don't lose all they want. I exercise a lot, but I enjoy it and it works off a lot of stress and keeps me from clawing people's eyes out, so I probably should keep that up no matter what.
I think I will be like you. I'm already in a size 4. I keep buying clothes thinking I'm not going to lose any more weight; and then one week per month, I seem to drop alot of inches and pounds. I'm worried I won't be able to find clothes small enough without going into the junior sizes. My husband thinks I'm losing too much weight. My personal trainer doesn't think I'm losing too much "yet' she said, but she has changed my workout to start building more muscle mass.
I think I'm overly concernced because I read about another OHer who had to go in for revision surgery because she was down to something like 93 pounds. However, she lost ALOT of weight in a very short amount of time, like 8 months or something.
It just doesn't seem right that I weigh so little and am still losing 5 to 7 pounds per month. I weighed myself two weeks ago and was at 133, and the following week I was at 129 (and that was a week when I was eating more than usual and not working out because I was sick). My fat percentage is at 26%. The ideal percentage for a woman (not accounting for age) is 22% to 25%.
I'm only in my 11th month, though. I'm not sure I want to keep losing for 6 or 7 more months. And I can't eat any more than I already am. It seems like there are many people who continue to lose for 18 months, but I don't think my body can sustain that.
I am probably worrying for nothing. I have to keep telling myself that I will cross that road if I come to it.
I was a little unusual. I lost 97lbs (if you include the 10 pre-op lbs) and hit goal weight in the first 6 months and was freaking. Then it stopped. In the past year since then I've lost only 7 more pounds and that includes the TT I had this past summer. I have dropped from a size (4 to 6) to a (0 to 2) in the past year as I've done a lot of weight lifting and gotten rid of the excess tummy skin. It can be very scary to still be losing at a rapid rate when you approach/hit your goal. And you don't get much sympathy. I found I needed to up my weight lifting and my protien to keep things in balance.
Good Luck.
