OMG--It's like I had one major life event (2 car accidents and sustained major injuries) and all hell broke loose. I haven't been able to work out since Aug and I've gained 30 pounds. I'm having all of these symptoms because of the rapid weight gain. However, I don't think I lost what I should have during the first year of RNY. I followed all the rules more so than others who weighed more than me to begin with and lost more after RNY. I'm not one of those people who believes there is a procedure for everything--"If I can weight I'll just have it sucked out of me" I've actually heard people say that after bypass. I'm very proactive. I didn't even think about revision. I simply thought as much as I dread it--I'll starve myself or something and try to get the 30 pounds off. However, I only lost 63 pounds with RNY. I didn't even think that perhaps RNY failed me. I went back to my surgeon and he said nothing is wrong after the test to see if my pouch had been stretched. My pouch is the size that it is supposed to be still I'm hungry all the time, can't stop gaining weight, and with the min. movement currently due to the accidents I'm very upset. I truly thought--I'd bust my ass after RNY drop the 80-100 pounds and keep it off forever--that's the attitude I had. I worked out 5 days a week for at least 90 mins. I watched the sugar, the carbs, weighed, measured all foods. I brought organic, fresh fruits and veggies. Spent tons of money on supplements and protein powder, etc and I was ok with that. I signed up for it when I went through with WLS. However, I didn't expect to gain 30 pounds in 5 months because I couldn't work out. I didn't realize that's what would happen. I am NOT BASHING RNY IN ANYWAY. At the time, I needed to shed pounds to get my diabetes in control. However, I feel the symptoms of my diabetes coming back. I feel unhealthy.  I didn't research WLS the way I should have. Everyone, doctors, dieticians, PCP, everyone suggested RNY and nothing else. RNY is fool proof for some people. My g/f had RNY lost over 150 pounds. She just had her plastic surgery and looks great/ feels great but she still doesn't forget that she has issues with food.  I say all that to say this...in my heart I don't feel that RNY worked for me. I can say that I put in 100%. I never looked at RNY as a quick fix. I have had to deal with my food issues, emotional issues, etc. I have also had to dedicate myself to health and fitness and I've done a hell of a job if I do say so myself. However, the pounds are still here. I currently weigh 245. I weighed 278 the day before my RNY surgery. I just don't feel healthy weighing this much. I do feel that I deserve a second chance at having a healthier BMI. Anyone is welcome to chime in....

I read some of the people who have had the RNY to DS revisions, and let me tell you, you're story is not so unfamiliar.  Most have lost weight, and then started to regain it rapidly. It's  not about will power, or slothfulness...obesity is a DISEASE.   We've actually been talking about this on the DS forum for the last few days, and there are a few new medical studies posted on my profile if you want to read them.   The DS gives you a thin persons metabolism.  It reduces the ghrelin hormone in your body (thats the hunger hormone), newer studies indicate this alone may supercharge the metabolism, but in addition, the DS also reduces the hormones that cause food to become fat in your body.  Dont' walk around feeling that you failed (which it doesn't sound like you are).  I really believe that the surgery failed you, as I said it's time to get a consult with a good RNY to DS surgeon...and get the ball rolling. Thank you for your feedback. I have had a chance to look at your profile and you have a wealth of information..thank you for sharing! Yes, I thought that the one thing RNY would CONTROL was my ghrelin levels and now I feel more hungry than I did before RNY. I'm hungry ALL THE TIME. Food again is such a struggle for me. I do believe that obesity is a disease. Do I believe that some people give obesity a bad wrap YES! But I also believe that it's something that is so difficult to control. Like I said, with following all the rules that go along with RNY I only lost 63 pounds in 18 months with working out 4-5 times a week. You hit the nail right on the head, Scott! We have poor metabolisms and it's not an excuse it's a fact. I have been really struggling with the idea of go under for another major surgery. Then I said to myself what if I had a serious heart condition, had surgery and then 3 years later I need another surgery--I would have to have it. My revision is a similar situation. No, revision wouldn't be my first choice however living at weighing 245 is unhealthy. I am diabetic. I have PCOS. I have to control these two conditions.  I am working on getting the ball rolling but you were just the encouragement I needed! THANK YOU FOR BEING SO VOCAL....GOD KNOWS I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. I'll keep in touch and thanks again for sharing so much wonderful info on your profile! We all need the information.

i haven't had any WLS and am struggling to figure out which WSL i want, but i do know that the feeling of be constantly hungry comes with being diabetic. my cat norman was diabetic and he drove us crazy with his hunger. he would walk across our heads till we would wake up and feed him. even when his diabetes was under control.

Hello,
I see you were looking into the DS from the RNY and wondered if you did go ahead with it or not, and if it worked for you.  I am at the point where I HAVE to do something that will work for me.  Please let me know.  Thank you!

Hey, I live in SW PA. DID you have your revision? I am loking for a doctor in PA (taking Highmark PPO insurance) .  I tought you may be able to steer me in the right direction?

I had a RNY on 7/27/1999 for my 40th birthday.  Well, here I am after my 50th birthday looking into RNY to DS revision.  I had lost from 31 lbs to 180 lbs.  That lasted for a blink of an eye.  For the next 2 years I slowly added another30 lbs.  By 2006, I had more medical issues requiring me to be in the hospital taking IV steroids for a month.  Gained another 30 bs.  So, since 200 I have been as high as 278!  I  did have the mild dumping at first but the food restriction didn't last long.  I hate to look at myself.

I just ordered the UNJURY protein drinks to try and start using that hopefully losing some weight.
Please email me.
