i will be 52 in may.and i also am in full blown menopause.  it sucks huh.  i try to go off the pills (estradiol tabs 1 mg) every so often but no luck.  the results outweigh the risks with them.  The doc put me on LEVOXYL 25 mg for the throyid issue to see if it helps any.  He said it might be too weak of a dose but to start with.  we shall see what happens with it.  I just hate taking meds but if I have to I have to. I also take 25mg of Levoxyl for low thyroid. My doctor says I'll probably always need it tho it's a small amount. It's needed to keep me at the right level. I started in when in the middle of menopause and prior to my RNY. Karen C

Hello!  I'm assuming you mean that your TSH levels are high and you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism; therefore, you have been prescribed medication to replace the hormone. You're not sure you want to take them??????    I suggest you do a significant amount of reading on the THYROID then.  This organ controls a whole host of hormones in your body.  To not keep this in balance could mean a lot of damage to your body (body means including your organs).  The thyorid regulates all other hormones in your body and affects, fertility, balance, core body temperature, heavey and/or irregular periods, metabolism, hair loss, mood, concentration, depression, fatigue, etc. etc.    You may have been "off" for so long that you don't even realize how "badly" you feel!  I challenge you to take your daily dosage for 3 months -- 12 weeks -- as this is how long it takes for the cells to FULLY cycle throughout your body.  Be retested so that it can be certain that you are on the right dosage.  If you aren't, switch to the proper dosage, and then again, take it for 12 weeks.  You're whole life will change!!!!!!!  Literally!!!!! Also, many people can't take the generic version of Synthroid.  I tried and went downhill very quickly.  If you started on the generic and you realize no change, you likely need to take the name brand.  It is $13.00 more per month for me to take the Synthroid.  It is worth every penny!!!!! Please don't continue to damage your body by NOT taking your medication!!!! You can visit:   www.aboutthyroid.com      www.webmd.com       www.emedicine.com      or google   "hypothyroidism" for hours of reading enjoyment. I hope you feel better soon!

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.

I took the real stuff years ago and my heart did not like it at all.  I don't have periods I had a hyst when I was 22.  I will take this stuff for  a while unless my heart does not like it either.  lol  We shall see.  One side effect is headaches which i have very badly.  I hate headaches.  At least they are not the normal migraines i get.

Hypothyroidism is NOT a side effect of WLS.  It is a serious problem that has a very simple solution.  TAKE THE MEDICATION!!!  I have been hypothyroid since I was 17 and having WLS has actually allowed me to lower my Synthroid dose.  Hypothyroidism is a very common problem that most often is diagnosed in your 30s (I was young).  Read up on it - either google it or look in webmd.com.  But TAKE THE MEDS.

Well I have been taking these meds for a few days now and my heart feels like it is going to jump out of my chest.  I guess my heart still does not like this stuff.  darn.  the doc said it might not be a large enough dose because it is the lowest dose but i guess it is not to be.  thanks for the advice

Oh and there is NOTHING wrong with my heart.  I have had all the tests including an angeogram (sp) where they go through the groin and check for blockages in the front and back of your heart.  All is Clear.  Had that done in 2006.
