86 Pound Loss....

Ok, I lost 16 pounds B4 surgery which I count...

I lost 86 pounds since surgery

I gained 5 of those 86 pounds back since surgery

Which means I have lost a total of 81 pounds since surgery

Which means, if you do an average per month, I have lost a total of 6.2 pounds per month

I know that this is not normal for a GBP, a RNY patient.

I eat right 90% of the time

I exercise 90% of the time

I take my vitamins everyday...dont miss

I drink my water everyday

I dont drink anything else except decaf coffee, no soda, no juice, no nothing!!!!!!

My carb intake is minimal and when I say minimal I mean minimal

My protein intake is 60 to 70g per day

What's the deal here peoples??????

Just my guesstamate here kiddo... Maybe increase your protein... Your body may be in starvation mode and not wanting to release anything, you might not be eating enough.  Some folks just lose really slowly... Do you know why the weight gain?  Have you tried journaling your food every day to make sure you are eating correctly?  I get in 100+ g of protein daily drink 100+ ozs of fluids (not empty ones at all) I don't exercise a lot, 1/2 hour daily some days I walk a couple hours.  Maybe your not getting in enough "good carbs".

I think 80+ pounds in a year is awesome, were you a lightweight?  I don't know how much you were hoping to lose... Maybe increase your exercising 15 mins a day more and see how that goes.

Do you feel better since you have lost this weight?  Try not to focus on the numbers, but on how you feel now...  How about going back to basics for a couple days, jump starting your body ... Any chance of getting together with your NUT?

Just a few suggestions... Keep us posted Huggs Debbiie

Just my guesstamate here kiddo... Maybe increase your protein... Your body may be in starvation mode and not wanting to release anything, you might not be eating enough.  Some folks just lose really slowly... Do you know why the weight gain?  Yes, because I couldnt exercise for about 3 weeks and I gained 10 pounds but I lost 5 of those.  I wasnt eating well those 3 weeks either. Have you tried journaling your food every day to make sure you are eating correctly? I have tried, but I get lazy with it because of all the other stuff going on in my life.   I get in 100+ g of protein daily drink 100+ ozs of fluids (not empty ones at all) I don't exercise a lot, 1/2 hour daily some days I walk a couple hours.  Maybe your not getting in enough "good carbs".  I dont eat a lot of carbs, but maybe the ones I am getting in isnt the good kind.

I think 80+ pounds in a year is awesome, were you a lightweight? I consider 250 or less lightweight and I was way more than 250 when I started. I don't know how much you were hoping to lose... Maybe increase your exercising 15 mins a day more and see how that goes.  I have changed my exercise routine constantly.  I started with walking, then tennis, then jumprope, lifting weights, medicine ball..Believe me when I tell you that I change up and the amount of time has increased.  Always cardio....

Do you feel better since you have lost this weight?  Yes, extremely better.  Try not to focus on the numbers, but on how you feel now...

How about going back to basics for a couple days, jump starting your body ... Any chance of getting together with your NUT?  I spoke to my NUT last month and she says that I am doing everything right and to be patient.

It looks to me like you are doing everything right. I'm not a RNY'er, but I have earned two things on this journey.  First is that you need carbs.  Are you eating enough?  At the beginning of my journey I was eating <10 a day.  I just happened to find out by accident at a support meeting that a carb count too low can backfire becuase your body needs them.  You could actually end up in the hospital. Are you eating enough calories?  Lately I've eaten more becuase of the holidays and family visiting, mainly in the form of chips, (I know I'm bad)  and I've had some really good weigh in results.   I thought that peanut butter was hurting me so I gave it up, but wasn't seeing the results I wanted.  Now I think that I was on a normal plateau and as a result started eating too little which caused a weight loss reduction.  Could this be happening to you? I hope everything works out for you.  Good Luck!!!!

Treena, I'm sure you're going to get a number of responses and ideas here on how to mix things up. First off, you've lost 102 pounds.  That's amazing, and give yourself credit for it.  I count the preop weight loss as part of my loss, period.  You have a good idea as to why you had the recent weight regain, so you know how to avoid more of that. When I was at the same stage you are, 12 months out, I found not only had my weight stalled, but a couple of pounds regain, and I had alot more I wanted to lose.  I decided to try something different for a month.  At one year, more carbs had worked their way into my daily intake.   For one month, I cut out all grains, completely.  No breads, crackers, pasta, rice, cereals, potatoes, at all, not even whole grains.  I ate protein and a few vegetables, such as brocolli, cauliflower, cabbage, green beans.  You would not believe the amount of weight I dropped in two weeks.  Then I didn't lose anything for another two weeks.  I lost about 15 pounds in two weeks.  I did this for exactly one month.  At the end of that, I went back to eating a more rounded diet, including whole grains in moderation, and more fruit.  I continued to lose weight until I was 23 months postop, when I stopped and stabilized.  I have always drunk at least one protein drink a day, and still do at almost 3 years postop.  I still eat protein first, and watch the amount of grain carbs I eat.  I don't count carbs or limit myself on vegetables or fruit, except for potatoes.  So I would recommend eliminating grains and potatoes from your diet for a couple of weeks, and see what happens.  Keep up the protein, water, exercise, and non-starchy vegetables.  It might work. It sure sounds like you are doing a lot of the right things... It may be a good thing to challenge yourself with keeping a daily food log (and literally write down every bite of food that goes into your mouth as well as every liquid), and an exercise journal. Be specific with each and refrain from any cheating at all. Do this for a month and see if you learn anything. And, of course, keep up the great work!
